2020 Ford Explorer XLT
Hello!

I want to install the OEM 360 camera system on my 2020 Explorer XLT.

Currently, I have the following
- Driver and passenger mirrors with cameras
- Rear digital camera
- Front digital camera
- Front parking aid wiring harness
- Used IPMB
- Parking/Camera hotkey

I just need to wire everything up. I do have the factory 360 camera wiring details and am wondering if anyone would have any guidance with this.

I don't have factory front parking sensors currently but I am attempting to get them wired up along with the 360 camera. (I did do some research and found that the Explorer Timberlines do have a 360 camera system without a front parking system.

This is my process to hopefully get everything working:
1. Install the new front parking aid wiring harness in the front bumper and tap into the front parking aid sensor wiring to get the wires from the front bumper into the car's interior and, ultimately, the IPMB.
2. Connect the Front, Side, and rearview cameras via COAX cable to the IPMB with their corresponding connections.
3. Figure out a way to properly secure the front camera to the grill (or get ahold of a grill from an Explorer that has a front camera mount)
4. Tap into the Parking/Camera hotkey wiring to enable its functionality.

Ive attached the OEM wiring diagrams and connectors.

Update

Unsuccessful at getting the car to recognize the IPMB after depinning the PAM connector and reconnecting the corresponding wires to the IPMB connectors aswell as connecting the Ford cameras to get the 360 system working.

So I reinstalled the PAM back with the original connectors and now my rear parking sensors don't work however the camera works fine. I now have the error code "U0159 Lost Connection with Parking Assist Control Module A" in the IPC on Forscan.

So this is where I’m currently at.

- I reinstalled the IPMB making sure to reconnect all the corresponding wires to the harness for the IPMB.
I could not get Forscan to recognize the IPMB.

- I tried the “Module Initialization/relearn from central configuration” and Local Interconnect Network New Module Calibration” procedures and the IPMB did not show up.

- I know that the IPMB was getting power because the parking aid off button above the HVAC controls was lighting up.

I have a feeling the CAN connections aren’t working because I feel like the car would notice it if it had power and was atleast on the CAN network.

Today some good news!

My car recognized the IPMB. No programming was done, I mainly wanted to see if the car would recognize it.

However I got that message on the log saying “IPMB has no DTC function”

I bought my '23 with the Tech package minus 360* camera. Do you have part numbers?
- Rear digital camera
- Front digital camera
- Front parking aid wiring harness
- IPMB (Image Processing Module "B"?)
- Parking/Camera hotkey (what is this?)

Is the standard backup camera compatible, or do I need to replace it? And how much investment ($) are you into the parts?

No, the IPMB uses COAX cable not standard 3-4 pin wiring.

I’m probably in so far $500-600ish. I honestly haven’t been keeping track,

The IPMB I got used from eBay for about $80 I wouldn’t buy directly from Ford.

Oh you also need the mirrors with the cameras in them to get the system to work. All 4 camera connect to the IPMB which then connect to the central wiring of the car and ultimately to the infotainment screen to display everything.

For mirrors I found Part Numbers PB5Z-17683-PA & PB5Z-17682-PA which is about $1,600 (new). It's insane that the window sticker knocked $500 off the sale price when we're looking at $2,400, all in (excluding software/programming).

Yea….. and it probably costs them not much at all to manufacture the mirrors and all the other parts.

I’d search around with the part numbers though, I got my mirrors from eBay for a reasonable price.

It's been a couple months, have you had any success getting your camera system to work?

An edit to my previous post: my car came with the mirror, front, and rear cameras installed but had a factory credit for the 360* system. My guess is they're connected but I do not have the proper control module to run the system.

Once I have the proper controller/chip installed - are you able to program with FORScan or do you need Ford software or VIN matching?

I have put this project on the back burner due to my work I can’t spend a ton of time on it right now.

That being said, I never got it fully working and not sure if I wanna continue pursuing it because this is my main commuter car and can’t have it out of commission.

I reached out to Ford regarding programming a module. It's only been a week since; we'll see what they say. I am expecting a "no," though.

Not to be Debbie Downer but I've been a Ford technician since the 80's and a senior master since 2001 and I wouldn't even attempt doing that on even my own vehicle, so much involved in that project I've fought some stock systems for weeks just to get them operating correctly, had a few that Ford engineering got involved in as well. Curious was any of the coax cable present in the factory harness to the mirrors or did you have to run all of that as well, at the dealership level we don't add anything that Ford doesn't offer in kit form.

I just received a response back. There isn't a procedure developed for it. So, if it's something we want to pursue, we're on our own. On one hand, I have made it this far without a 360* system, but on the other, it sure is nice when you're backing into a tight spot or a garage.

I agree it's a great system but the overhead perceived image is still kind of freaky. :)

I've been inactive with this for a minute, and that's my bad. But I have kind of abandoned this project due to its complexity. If anyone has any better ideas on how to get it working, I'm open, but I'm stuck at repinning the IPMB, and it's not getting recognized by the car.

If anyone wants to attempt and continue this DM me and I can work on sending the parts I have
