Oh, good point on the GM axle. For some reason I thought the diff was driver-side. My dad has a wrecked Chevy 4x4 and I have access to those parts. The SOA in the rear is just preferential only. I don't like the look of springs under the axle. Plus I wouldn't really have to buy anything...

Whoever told you that you had to go in reverse in order to lock your hubs may want to rethink what they think they know. I agree with Fixxxer.

My Explorer has a manual transmission so I don't know about having to have it in "N" then go to "R." However, I do know you have to be in 4X4 before going into 4X4 low.

Maybe this will help. This is my '93 with 31's.

I have a 93 sport trac (no lift what so ever) and have 31's on. This size looks pretty darn good on there. Speedo is off a bit but I've since unhooked the cable from the T-case so I hardly even notice it.

And to think I almost went out and bought another shift motor. No money spent, just a few hours of my time. Very accurate instructions and oh so helpful. Thanks!
