Fog lights going out in my 99 Limited.

Bill, thanks again for the heads up. I just installed a new LOM and that fixed the problem.

Fog lights going out in my 99 Limited.

Quick question: what is the difference in operation between the fog lamps relay and the fog lamps isolation relay? Last night my passenger side headlight went out and the fogs didn't work either (including the green light on the fog button). Today I put it a new headlight bulb and new fuse, but...

    Apten Chip still the best??

dreamr, That's interesting that the shifts weren't programmed correctly for you either. Apten must have great quality control... I didn't even scan the codes for the CEL. The car ran great before the chip and I checked the board when I saw the CEL a few days after installing the chip. Sure...

    Apten Chip still the best??

I contacted Apten within the past couple months for a chip because of all the great press on this site, so I'll add my experience to this thread. I used the www.apten-us.com website since it was listed on this board and because it was the first result in a Google search for "Apten chip". I...

    Squeak/Rubbing while braking under 20MPH

My problem was rust on the back of the front passenger rotor. After machining it, it's silent.

    Squeak/Rubbing while braking under 20MPH

I have this very same problem on the same wheel too. It's still noticeable in the wet weather, but primarily when the brakes/suspension are cold. I swapped in new Explorer Express sway bars front and rear the other day, and that didn't change the problem either, so I know the sway bar bushings...

Street suspension for 97 Eddie Bauer?

Thanks for the info. I'll order the EE bars on Monday. I also see that Sears has the Rancho 5000 shocks, and Rancho is offering a rebate too. So I'll probably go that route. I've flipped the switch behind the access panel in the trunk to disable the self-leveling rear suspension. Now is there...

Street suspension for 97 Eddie Bauer?

I have a 1997 Explorer 4WD with the Eddie Bauer package with 16" wheels and self-leveling rear suspension... After 89k miles I'd like to refresh the whole suspension. I don't off-road the truck and I don't even tow with it, but I would like a more stable, less bouncy ride on the street. I'd also...

mobil 1 fiasco: who's switching? who's going down with the ship?

Here's my 92 cents. I'm adding it to this eternal thread since some of the ideas have not been posted yet... Motor oil is sold by advertisers as a parity good these days, meaning all brands basically do the same thing equally -- lubricate engine internals. While this is true for most...

Messed up the finish on new black XLS

Re: "Orange Peel"?? Look closely at your car and you may notice a somewhat rough texture to the paint finish, almost resembling looking closely at the outer peel of an orange. High end paint jobs are super smooth, almost like glass. Doesn't have anything to do with color, just texture.

Messed up the finish on new black XLS

I agree that Zymol seems to last only a couple months, especially if the vehicle is not garaged. I enjoy waxing my car so that's my excuse. :-)

mobil 1 fiasco: who's switching? who's going down with the ship?

I just recently switched from Mobil 1 to Red Line Synthetic. (The car was a Porsche 944 turbo but the results should be consistent with Explorers too. I also have a 97 Ex sohc and that's why I'm here.) I had been using Mobil 1 15-50 and a Mahle oil filter (Porsche OE). I switched to Red Line...

Messed up the finish on new black XLS

There's a lot of useful info about cleaning and maintaining a finish at www.carcareonline.com For instance, to avoid swirls, do not apply and remove wax in a circular motion. Apply it back and forth in a straight line, front to back. On the last black car I owned, I used 3M Imperial Hand...
