    98 Explorer Wipers quit working

Well, I finally got ready to get into the cowl, and the wipers started working. It made a noise like it broke through something and settled into a normal wipe. The only explanation I have is that I got an ice block built up over the time I had it parked..temperatures were back up to 40 the...

    98 Explorer Wipers quit working

OIC. The wipers are at outwipe, i.e. vertical up by a-pillar, so the linkages are lined up and locked. As i get into the cowl, I will nudge the linkage past lock-up and see if I can't do what you suggest. thanks for the clarification.

    98 Explorer Wipers quit working

yeah, tried that. Keyed off/on with MFS off and wipers did not reset to park; stayed stuck at outwipe. In my situation, I used the "mist" function to wipe some light fluffy snow off the glass, and it wiped to outwipe and stopped. if it was the switch, I would expect it to finish the cycle...

    98 Explorer Wipers quit working

wow, same thing happened this morning to my 2001 Sport Trac. I checked the fuse and it was OK. Next, I will check the relays, then motor, then linkages. Hopefully, I will learn something and let you know... Anyone else out there with experience?

    '02 ST Side Steps

I just got a set of those running boards on my 01 ST today. they are definitely bolt-ons and have about 3/4 inch adjustability in-out and up-down. if your ST is older, or you live in the rust belt, the j-clips will be extremely hard to remove. in fact, the rocker flange had rusted through on...

    02 Sport Trac ABS issue

sounds like it could be a bad hub. I had the same problem. ABS seemed to kick in (pulse) as you come to a slow stop. a couple times I thought I was going to hit whatever was in front of me. the ABS sensor is completely isolated from the hydraulic fluid so I don't think your brake job triggered...

Problems after changing to newer LED turn/brake lights

I'm baffled. I have a 2001 J1 ST. I have GP Thunder LED 3157 bulbs on all four corners. My left rear bulb burned out so I ordered some new GP Thunder 82 SMD 3157 bulbs. I have an electronic blinker module installed from before to cure the hyper flashing issue. I do not have any resistors...

How to: SOHC PCV Valve Mod thru 2000

PCV replacement for 2001 J1 ST Before I saw your mod, I bought the OEM PCV/hose assembly for $30. So before I dismantle a perfectly good assembly to do your mod, I want to try and replace the whole assembly. Any idea how to get at the bottom hose where it attaches to the case? The top two...

    PCV Valve Replacement

Really nice write up, BTW. I ended up paying for the OEM replacement PCV/hose assy for my 2001 J1 ST which has the same set-up. Any idea how to get at the other end of the flared hose that holds the PCV valve from below? I want to try and replace the assembly before I resort to your mod.

    Gas door - Spring

same thing happened to me my 01 had the same thing happen. Door felt funny and next thing I know, it wont stay closed. I ended up taking the wheel liner out (a bunch of screws along the wheel lip and christmas trees to the frame hold it on). Then a couple more screws on the fuel filler...

    CNG Compressed Natural Gas

range is added Your range will increase; cng is an add-on so if you go with a 16 gal equiv tank you will get your usual 300 on gasoline plus another 240 on cng. You just flip a switch to go from one to the other..

    CNG Compressed Natural Gas

@motrv8 Cool. I'd like to hear about your install and lessons learned for sure. I didn't think it could be done that cheap. What company did you go through? I was looking at a 16 gallon equiv tank...i'll have to dig up my research but I think I was looking at closer to 3G's.!

    CNG Compressed Natural Gas

Anyone done a CNG conversion/add-on for your ST? I hear it's a fairly easy conversion. We have many filling stations in the Detroit area, so I'm thinking it'd be a easy (but a bit pricey) way to improve my cost/mile.. Any opinions, experience, or "don't do its" out there?

Front End Noise - Low Speed Turning

Getting ready to do this myself next week with Timken $110 from a local supplier through Amazon (no tax or shipping!:D). The spec calls for 250ft lbs on the axle nut; I think that's crazy high, but it is a spec. No issues at a 100 though???? What did you torque the three 15mm bolts through...

    Right turn signal is dead

Provokr, did you happen to notice if your turn signal worked if your headlight/parking lights were off? I have the exact same issue, so can you be more specific on the location of the connector and wire you fixed?

Right Turn Signal does not work with lights on

Did a quick search and didn't find anything obvious... The Right turn signal on my '01 ST stopped working, but get this, only when the parking and/or headlamps are on. The emergency flasher also only lights the LH turn signals with lights on. With lights off, both turn and flashers work...

    Gas Mileage

My 01 56K 4x4 255-70R16 with stock tonneau, running boards, skid plates and added K&N and hitch gets a combined 17 ~ 20 mpg. I would guess 70 to 80 percent highway miles. I've also been driving like a granny, slow accelerations, lots of coasting down and keeping it under 75 on the freeways...

    Losing Weight

Anyone out there put their ST on a diet? My 4x4 came with OEM tonneau, skid plates and nerf bars which probably add up to 200 lbs of weight. Has anyone removed/replaced these items to improve gas mileage? Are there any light weight alternatives for tire/wheel combinations that still...

    01 Trac Bed Alignment

I just aligned mine, but there is nothing high-tech about the procedure. Just loosen the four Torx in the bed and the light plastic bed is easy to maneuver. Set your box front panel gap to the cab at 3/4" at both sides. Mark the center line of your backlite and box and align. That should do...

When SHOULD the AC be on ?

On my 97 Ranger and 01 ST (as well as 99 F150) the compressor runs on all settings except for FLOOR ONLY, and HEAD ONLY. Defrost, Defrost/Heat, Head/Floor, AC and MAX AC all run the compressor for varying durations/frequencies.

Auto lamp help on 2000 Sport/2001 Sport or ST Just installed the auto lamp/auto dim mirror today. The auto dim functions perfectly; a really simple connection. But as I suspected, the autolamp does not work with the splice into the w/p wire under the sill/kick. I bench tested the...

Yellow Snow ? ? in Tailpipe

Yellow Snow ? ? in Tailpipe

Had a big blowing snow storm yesterday and some snow got packed into the tailpipe. some of the snow in the tailpipe turned a funny yellow color, like there might be something coming out the pipe. It's yellow, not yellow-green like antifreeze. I took some pix, but haven't got a server to...

    Auto Lamp mod for ST

Cougar, I do have keyless entry. I will give it a shot, though, I am a little skeptical, since there appears to be no wiring/relay for headlamps connected to the RAP. Another thing: when I push the panic button, only the park lamps flash, not the headlamps, which seems to confirm that...

    Auto Dim/Auto Light Mirror

FX Help I am about to install the autolamp mirror in my 2001 ST J1, which has the RAP sensor, but it only is connected to the parking lamp relay according to the wiring manual. Question 1: All of you that have successfully made the w/p splice work for your park AND headlamps, do you have...

    Auto Lamp mod for ST

bump Further, it sounds like splicing into the w/p wire will only light the parking lamps unless the vehicle comes with the autolamp feature and associated relay. Does anyone know if the 2002 STs with autolamps have the same wiring as a 2001 (autolamps not offered), i.e. can I just plug in a...

    Auto Lamp mod for ST

    sport trac sucks gas ,help!

I just put my first two full tanks of gas into my "new" 2001 ST, and in combined driving have gotten 18.7 (about 80% highway, 20% surface streets). When I got it, it had half a tank in it, so just for giggles, I filled it up and did the math and the previous owner was getting 16 mpg in the...

    Auto Lamp mod for ST

Hi all. I've done some searching in the Forums and found several very detailed and informative threads on adding the autolamp/autodimming mirror to Explorers, but have some questions... It sounds like the simple way of getting autolamps is by splicing into the W/P wire in the large loom at...
