hey i know this one I have a 94 explorer and I had the same thunk It is your driveshaft yolk slide.. take the boot back off the driveshaft and lube up the yolk slide with wheel bearing grease bet ya it goes away

I used to work for ford, and the condensors are known to go on the explorers with some milage on them so check for a leak there

I have solved my pinging problem simply by removing the throttle plate assy and spraying gum out into the plenum , cleaning out all the gunk.. Then after a can of that reassy the throttle housing and start it up to clean it all out.. ping is gone
