Where is the REVERSE LIGHT SWITCH located?

I think it's a good chance your shifter is not sending the signal required by the PCM. My second guess is an open circuit.

Key Fob- where is the receiver antenna located on a 2008 Explorer?

For those that somehow missed this, Go to emanualonline.com. I got the 2006-2010 Explorer/Sport Trac Service and Repair manual. It was $36...and there's a 22% discount being offered now. I found it was worth every cent. I have nothing to do with this company, no association at all. Cheers, Charlie

Key Fob- where is the receiver antenna located on a 2008 Explorer?

JC, I haven't had the time to dig the SJB out, yet. Can't decide if the trouble is worth the slight convenience that would be gained. The manual was a PDF file that you can download. I'd contact the company if you are concerned. Cheers, Charlie

Key Fob- where is the receiver antenna located on a 2008 Explorer?

SOLUTION FOUND!!! Since it was apparent that no one has had the "poor Key Fob range" problem before. Or, if they did, they never found the root cause. So, I bought a complete workshop manual for Gen 4 Explorers online. The site is called EMAUNUALONLINE, and when they say complete workshop...

Key Fob- where is the receiver antenna located on a 2008 Explorer?

I found a previous thread concerning key fob receiver antennas on a 2011 Explorer. They said if you have phone chargers plugged into the charging point, it will affect the range of the receiver. Even though mine is a 2008, I thought I'd give it a go. I, in fact, did have a charger plugged into...

Turn key...No Elec pwr, no lights/sounds, nothing works, can't shift out of park. Batts good.

I just noticed I never put the solution to the problem. The first Batt was bad, so I replaced the Batt with a new one. Still didn't solve my problem. Turns out after a week plus of trouble shooting, the second (brand new) Batt was also bad. Go figure. I can't believe I had pulled everything I...

Key Fob- where is the receiver antenna located on a 2008 Explorer?

I've just had a Key Fob locking device replaced by Ford. The old one stopped working unless I held it right next to the drivers door...within an inch. I changed batts, no difference. Today I picked up the new Fob and it worked exactly the same way. Where are the receiver antennas located on a...

Turn key...No Elec pwr, no lights/sounds, nothing works, can't shift out of park. Batts good.

The reason I even mentioned the cracked lens of the taillight, is because I had to trip the Brake-shift Interlock to get the car out of park to tow it. In the Owners Manual on page 277, there is a blurb about this. "If it is necessary to use the above procedure to move the gear shift lever, it...

Also tried to jump it and had no effect. No sign of any power at all getting to the car. Charlie

Turn key...No Elec pwr, no lights/sounds, nothing works, can't shift out of park. Batts good.

Checked batt, has 12.7 volts and is 2 weeks old. The cables at the batt end are clean and tight. I'll be getting underneath tomorrow. There was no other damage. Charlie

Turn key...No Elec pwr, no lights/sounds, nothing works, can't shift out of park. Batts good.

Was driving this afternoon, backed into a low fence rail. Put it in park and checked it out. Cracked tail light lens. Drove for another 20 minutes stopped put it in park, and shut it down. Came back in 10 minutes, went to start it and it was dead. No electrical power. No lights. No clicks...

Where is the REVERSE LIGHT SWITCH located?

Bought a Maintenance Manual. For the reverse lights, on a 2008 Explorer, in normal operation... "The smart junction box (SJB) receives the transmission gear status from the PCM (5R55S transmission), through the instrument cluster gateway, over the communication network. When the transmission is...

Where is the REVERSE LIGHT SWITCH located?

J_C, I think you're on to something. I looked at the info listed for the Part SW6396 Backup Light Switch on the RockAuto site. It lists both the Explorer 1991-2010 and the Mountaineer 2002-2010 as using the switch. It must go somewhere!!! Charlie

Where is the REVERSE LIGHT SWITCH located?

J_C, Looked through the BullittGuy string, and most of that was about 2nd and 3rd Gen Rangers. The Manual trans entries are N/A. I have a 2wd 5R555, 5 speed tranny, and a 4th Generation Explorer. Anyone who can tell me where the "Backup Lamp Switch, Motorcraft part # SW6396, is attached to a...

Where is the REVERSE LIGHT SWITCH located?

OK...changed out the Digital Transmission Range Sensor (DRS) and it DID NOT fix the problem. Reverse lights still don't come on in Reverse. That leaves the "Motorcraft SW6396 Back up Lamp Switch" as posted by J_C. Does anybody have any idea where the switch is located? If on the...

Where is the REVERSE LIGHT SWITCH located?

My Chilton's doesn't mention a transmission mounted Reverse Light Switch, but does mention a Digital Transmission Range Sensor (DRS). The wiring diagram for a DSR has the power coming from Fuse 27, but my owner's manual says that Fuse 27 is for "Tri-color Stop Lamps" and Fuse 15 is for the...

REVERSE LIGHTS INOP in 2008 explorer V6/2wd

My last post worked out so well, I've got another problem to discuss. Both reverse lights stopped working. Anyone had a similar experience? Respectfully, Charlie UPDATE: Fuse # 15 checks good and the bulbs are good. Does anyone know where the Reverse Light Switch is located on a Gen 4 Explorer...

Location of the Brake pressure shutoff switch

CRUISE CONTROL FIXED!!! Turned out to be a bad switch on the steering wheel. Thanks to all that helped out. Take aways from this.... 1. Gen 4 Explorers don't have a Brake Pressure Cutoff Switch. They have an electrical Brake Position Cutoff Switch located on the brake pedal assy. You apparently...

Location of the Brake pressure shutoff switch

Found the electrical Speed Control cut off switch that Stynx showed me in an above entry. Checked good though. So, the brake lights check good, I can't find a fuse that is specifically for the cruise control, but everything else appears to be working...so I'll go past this one until someone can...

Location of the Brake pressure shutoff switch

Thanks, Eddie. It appears the 2008 is atypical then. There's nothing attached to the Master Cylinder. And I cant see anything that looks like a pressure actuated switch in the vicinity of the Master Cylinder. I'm wondering that because of the fire issue associated with the pressure switch, that...

Location of the Brake pressure shutoff switch

My Cruise Control won't activate on my 2008 Ed Bauer V6 Explorer. Youtube tells me that the most common problem is the brake pressure shutoff switch. It is not located on the Master Cyl. Can someone tell me where it is? Also, I can't find anywhere which fuses are associated with the cruise...
