Explorer 5.0 rods same as Mustang?
The only forged 5.0 parts I know of is that around 1992 and earlier the 5.0 mustangs had forged pistons. After that they got hypereutectic pistons but as far as I know the lower ends are the same.- SWIGIN

driver power window
My 79 Bronco tailgate glass did this and I would do the same thing, shoot some lube on the glass run for over a decade. I finally bought new glass run and it works like new. My theory is the felt gets worn off and the rubber drags on the glass slowing it down in certain spots. I should of...- SWIGIN

Junk yard finds for my EX.
I finally made it back to that junk yard and got most everything I was looking for. I got the rest of the flares to make a set, 2 console lids, fuse box cover, cruise control buttons, a stock lug wrench, and a factory sub box. The hardest thing to find was the factory lug wrench. Mine was...- SWIGIN

SAS Radius Arm Mount Ideas
Your post is hard to read but if you are getting a complete Jeep why don't you just measure the angles or whatever from it. Now that being said, My 79 Bronco has control arms and it is lifted making the arms steeper then stock. It don't matter at all because even though the rear is tilted...- SWIGIN

Here is everything you ever wanted to know about your 99 and then some. http://www.explorerforum.com/ntrprize/spec1999.htm As far as gas tanks, the 2 doors had 17ish gallon tanks and the 4 doors had 21ish gallon tanks.- SWIGIN

How low on the factory fuel gauage can I go?
When I bought my 98 the needle was on the E line but I forget what it took to fill it. I never go much below 1/4 tank because the sloshing fuel is hard on the fuel pump but at least I know I could go at least till the needle touches the E line. EDIT..... If you don't care about ware and...- SWIGIN

35 PSI is not the same as having a stiffer spring rate. Try spending 18 years driving a lifted 78-79 Bronco or a crewcab dually then jump in an Explorer with saggy springs. Feels like your riding on a bowl of jelly.- SWIGIN

I have had my 79 Bronco Ranger XLT for just over 18 years. My EX is replacing it but it's killing me to part out the 79 after all that time. The 460 I rebuilt for it is the main reason I'm having a hard time letting it go but the D44 will be AWSOME under my EX. :D- SWIGIN

Here is the way my 98 sat stock. This is with a SkyJacker add a leaf. I did an add a leaf to get my EX to stop riding like it was a bowl of jelly. No need for a car like ride in a 4x4 IMO. The ride now is perfect, no more Cadillac mushy feel but not rough like my lifted 79 bronco.- SWIGIN

I bought the Gibson SS rear exit cat back for my 98 and it fit like crap. Traction-Lok "S" clip
Yeah, I add the extra disc all the time but I keep the S spring. The more pressure on the clutch pack the better. EDIT.... I just looked at that link and that is NOT how I do it. Why would you grind of clutch material? The correct way to do this, shown to me by my Ford trained mechanic...- SWIGIN

4406 swap... power and MPG improvment thread
If I'm reading that correctly you did a body lift at the same time as your 4406 swap? If so that could just about wipe out ant MPG gain from the swap. I know it's only 2 or 3 inches but you are moving through more air when you lift, more air is more drag. When I lowered my Bronco from 8''...- SWIGIN

My 98 XLT 5.0 Finally Goes Under The Knife
Thanks guys Now that I drove it awhile I can say without a doubt that my EX is far more fun to drive being 4x4 then AWD. On average I gained 1.7 MPG, went from 15.5 to 17.2 but I drive mostly back roads and town driving so mileage might vary for others. But the big thing for me is the...- SWIGIN

Noise in rear diff - Opinions?
I have done 25 or so 8.8 rears and I torque the cap bolts to 75ft/lb. The rolling resistance of a 8.8 pinion with new bearings and seals I have found that 30-35 in/lb is the best.- SWIGIN

4406 swap... power and MPG improvment thread
No manual hubs yet. I am keeping this as fair as possible. I have not had a front driveshaft in my EX yet since I have owned it. My 98 XLT 5.0 Finally Goes Under The Knife
All that work just so I could show these pictures. :D I'm glad I tucked the shifter boot under the console because that gave me decent leg room. I'm a big boy and my leg just barely touches the rubber boot. When I bought my EX it didn't have the front driveshaft on so for a fare...- SWIGIN
