Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
No kidding. If I am going to do it over, I am going to do it right. If I get time Friday, I will take the Explorer to DualTone Muffler. I have been going to them for years. They are honest, and fairly priced. See how cheap I can get the "Y" pipe moved up and the rear section rerouted...- BKennedy

Looks like I will be rerouting the exhaust then. It would be a lot easier to mount at 90* to the axle and angled rearwards towards the top, except for the exhaust. Seems like everything I do makes me move or redo something that was done before.- BKennedy

Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
Thanks. I measured it all out a few weeks ago, and I know how much shock shaft I need showing at ride height with them angled in slightly (4"), to get the most out of them. I was looking at pictures of a stock Explorer's rear axle, and I think I can get close to the original angles, but come...- BKennedy

Okay, lets talk shocks! My current rear dual shock set-up is like this It needs a re-do, as mentioned above. The axle mounts I think I have figured out. I ordered these from Ruff Stuff; Axle Mounts; Frame mounts: I can use them in all sorts of ways. The frame cross mount is...- BKennedy

Rear shocks: Just spent an hour under there measuring and trying to figure out if I can use some of the existing mounts when I redo the shocks. Nope. The 2x2" cross bar is not sitting level, so all the mounts are about 3/4" higher on the passenger side. I guess when the guy I paid to put...- BKennedy

What is this and why is there white smoke
Your valve cover is obviously leaking oil in the picture. It probably is leaking onto the exhaust manifold at the joint and the smoke is the oil burning off after the manifold heats up.- BKennedy

4x4. Wtf is that sound?
Sounds like either; A busted hub that is not fully engaged, or; Something in the steering like a loose tie rod or bushing. Go through the suspension with a pry bar, check all ball joints, u-joints, tie rods, links, etc. See what is loose. Mark (Maniac) is right, don't drive a...- BKennedy

Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
I was thinking of removing the stock roof rack sliders entirely to get the new rack to fit more flush with the roof and adding new mounts to the front. Just going to plug / seal the original rivet holes that don't line up for mounts. I never liked the way the sliders are mounted to the roof...- BKennedy

Bkennedy's SAS and Rebuild Thread
Stuff I still need (want) to do: 1) Move exhaust "Y" pipe up a few inches for more ground clearance, and to clear a trans pan skid plate. Fab up skid plate with new forward cross member / support at the bump stops. 2) Refresh rear shock mounts. I am convinced that some of the body roll...- BKennedy

If its new to you, I recommend changing all of the fluids as soon as possible. Who knows when they were done last.- BKennedy

Diff Oil topup
Why is it low? Usually there is something going on causing the fluid level to drop. Any leaking seals? If it has been over 40000 miles since you changed the fluid, you should change it instead of adding new to old.- BKennedy

Completed Project Kirby's 1991 Ranger Build Up
That is a good deal. You got two for one. When I was tire shopping last year, the Goodyears were about $30 each more than the KM2's, so I got the KM2's. Good tires. Good choice on the 35's as well, 33's are so 90's.- BKennedy

Jeep stuff we can use? Seriously..
Yes I do. The XJ is the same width as the Explorer at the front. Had to cut the front of the frame off and make new mounts. It was made by Protofab out of Arizona.- BKennedy

Completed Project Kirby's 1991 Ranger Build Up
I was looking back on your thread and I don't see the plan for coils/shocks, or coil over shocks. What are you thinking on that? 5:13 gears is a great choice. I have them and they are a good compromise for a off-road truck that is driven on the street. My Explorer is comfortable on the...- BKennedy

Completed Project Kirby's 1991 Ranger Build Up
The guy who designed the Duff arms used to work for them, then went his own way and started up Cage. They are out of business, last I heard. Cage used a weld-on, super heavy mount, on the axle tubes that the head units bolt on to instead of the Ford wedgies. You are right about more flex...- BKennedy

Rear works well, but not as good as the front. I think they compliment each other to make it a nice, stable ride. If I was going to do the shock mounts over again, and I might, I would not put the rear shocks on so much of an angle. It allows some body roll. Also would like to double sheer...- BKennedy

:D I had never been on that trail before. Its supposed to be a 2+, but was more like a 3+. It is about an hour climb up a steep and narrow trail. Lots of off camber spots, big rocks in the middle of the trail, and ditches. No smooth parts. All on the side of a very steep hill. Nothing...- BKennedy

Went out on a solo day trip today to Pancake Rock Trail. Noticed the oil pressure "gauge" went up with the key, then down to the "N" in normal after start. I don't think potato guns meet the definition of a firearm. If it does, you have every right to manufacture your own firearm for your exclusive use. You just can't sell, trade, give away, etc. Got this letter from the ATF off of Calguns; ATF -- Yes, they are legal. Department of the...- BKennedy

Should be the same box. One of the three bolt holes would allow a nut on the outside. One other would allow a nut with a little trimming. The third would require a bunch of trimming, which would weaken the mount so much that I could not trust it to hold. Guess which one stripped? Yep, the...- BKennedy
