2001 EB 5.0
@JAMMANICA Aha! I am the one you are looking for! I had never seen or heard of such a device until I got my second Ex. It is listed as an option in the factory owner's manual, with controls. I think it is called TravelNote, but I could be in error. As far as recording those messages... I know...- DintDobbs

keyless entry help
@r1cardo97 This thread is from 2016, but that is an interesting topic. If you have the factory owner's manual, perhaps it will tell you what sort of tampering would set off the alarm. I disabled the alarm on both of my Explorers using the power lock switch - perhaps you would do well to verify...- DintDobbs

Rebuilt Automatic Transmission Shifting Hard, Bottoming Out When Stopping, 97 Explorer LTD 4.0 V6
@Randy8026 Excellent! Patience is a virtue. When dealing with problems, and particularly problems involving other people, patience is the most important ingredient in the recipe. That's a beautiful truck, I'd be jealous if I didn't have one like it!- DintDobbs

Question about tires...I have two 2002 Explorers
I'll join this little battle and say three things: 1. If I had seen this post when it was originally made, I could have told you it was a flat spot on the tire. Two years without moving? Flat spot. Period. 2. I've crushed cinder blocks with my '99 Sport. All cinder blocks are not created...- DintDobbs

Opinions on trans fluid dipstick level please
@usapadyra I haven't ever messed with it when warm, so I can't say how high it goes at operating temperature. I have always filled mine it to just under the max line while cold, and I've been running it for years at that level with no issues. If there's a warm fill line, then follow that when...- DintDobbs

In other news, I'm thinking that the issue with my TOD might in fact be in the mechanicals of the transfer case. The old gal is long overdue for a rebuild (or replacement) any way. My skill set, tool set, and available time are not such that this is a task I would want to attempt. However, it...- DintDobbs

@valenciaismail Thanks for asking! I updated it in my profile. The front lift is a Superlift K357 4" for Rangers, plus RTZ 1" re-indexed torsion bar keys, B-code torsion bars, and Rough Country front drive shaft for its 5" lift (same dimensions as Superlift's front shaft, but cheaper and with...- DintDobbs

New to the scene, but not to the game.
@PoweredByMB She looks pretty! That color really stands out, too. Only seen a handful that color on the roads. I would recommend going to 4.56's at the tallest, and no shorter than 5.13's unless it's going to be a dedicated crawler. As I am so quick to remind everyone, my 33's on 5.13 gears are...- DintDobbs

2001 5.0 intermittent power loss and missing
@66427 As @Mbrooks420 said, there is no factory-installed access panel on these Explorers. However, that can't stop owners from adding their own, if desired. There is a write-up on this, finding it shouldn't be hard.- DintDobbs

Disabling airbag system
@VWbaja10 Can agree, I did some good thrashing recently and decided I was glad that I disabled 'em. I'm not sure where exactly it has to be hit in order to trigger them, but I'll not be finding out! Happy trails!- DintDobbs

Disabling airbag system
@VWbaja10 Unplugging the yellow connector under driver's & front passenger's seats does disable the respective air bags. I've done this on both of my Ex's. For peace of mind, I've also unplugged the connector inside the steering wheel and the connector above the glove compartment. I believe...- DintDobbs

stiffer torsion bars from ford????
@VWbaja10 Bilstein, that was the one I couldn't think of. Ask around a bit, see what the other boyos are doing, and why. The best option ultimately depends on what you're doing with your truck.- DintDobbs

stiffer torsion bars from ford????
@VWbaja10 The weight of an Explorer will squish a R5000 into crab salad. Not sure how, but I managed to bend one of mine, back when I had 'em. I mean, it was better than the worn-out stock ones, but definitely not ideal for these vehicles. I've found the Superlift gas shocks to do well on mine...- DintDobbs

stiffer torsion bars from ford????
@VWbaja10 Yeah, I forgot about that hefty chonk of a bumper. That's probably most of the problem, honestly - stiffer bars will help with that. Do you know about how much that bumper weighs? The factory one can't be more than about 10 or 20 pounds, so if that one weighs more than 50 pounds, might...- DintDobbs

stiffer torsion bars from ford????
@VWbaja10 The re-indexed keys should give you a bit more adjustment to "crank" them back up (settling after a few cycles is normal, so crank them higher than you want them to sit), but if a stiffer bar is some thing you also desire, code B is about as stiff as I'd recommend. Kinda wish some...- DintDobbs

stiffer torsion bars from ford????
I think the 1st-gen Sport Trac went until 2005, don't quote me on that. You'll know the 2nd-gens from the 1st-gens, the headlamps have a "teardrop" design in them and the trucks themselves are much larger than the 1st-gens. I don't recall where I ordered my code B T-bars from but I know they...- DintDobbs

2001 5.0 intermittent power loss and missing
@66427 This sounds like the fuel pump, exact same thing happened to an acquaintance's 2000 Taurus a while back. Then the pump quit altogether. Do check the other things mentioned here, for confirmation, but it's almost certainly a fuel pump.- DintDobbs

@donalds Probably, but for now I threw it all back together so I could drive it again. Half a parking brake is fine for a week or two, and I'll have to take the caliper off to get in there and replace the scissors lever any way.- DintDobbs

Bought some needle nose vise grips and kicked the spring's butt in a second, went over to the other side and threw the whole assembly together in like 15 minutes... and noticed what made the first side so difficult. @Fix4Dirt It's a pain in the hands, back, and butt! Worked on it for 4 hours until it got dark, with help from my ma to guide the front retainer spring into the loop on the shoe, using the spring hook/flat screw driver method. Swapped in a brand new rear center VSS and test drove, no change. Scanned for ABS codes, also no change (still no codes). I'm beginning to think that the issue is elsewhere, but will still swap in a new right front WSS since that has caused the C1234 before. If that doesn't correct the issue...- DintDobbs

Swapped in a new rear center VSS, re-enabled ABS. Tested it, and it works. Easy fix. Went to the parts store and cleared the ABS codes, will check back in a week or so and see if the C1102 has returned. (It should. I didn't mess with that.) On to the parking brake... Rear Leaf lift replacement
@DannyW Nice information to have, there; this could be the option I select when my OME's wear out. A little more lift on the rear end would do mine some good. Lift questions
@jamie8470 No. I was trying to answer all of your questions. Only the second paragraph regards wheel offset. In general, less backspacing (farther negative offset) will cause more strain on the wheel hubs and suspension components, due to added leverage as @Fix4Dirt described. Basically, the...- DintDobbs

Rear Leaf lift replacement
@~X~ Not trying to steal @VWbaja10 's thread, but if ya don't mind, which leaves did you take from the F-150 pack? All of 'em and just keep the Explorer's top leaf? @PoweredByMB I know spacers aren't your preferred option, but I've got to recommend Supreme Suspensions spacers, if you find no wheels with proper backspacing.
