@Fix4Dirt Yes, it occurred to me that we were talking about two different things. You and Don were referring to FelPro for gaskets, and I'll take that advice. FelPro gaskets are in fact available, found them on RockAuto. I was referring to Denso for the fuel pump and injectors. Don...- DintDobbs

@Fix4Dirt Your input is also regarded highly. FelPro isn't available from my go-to source, but I'm sure I can find it elsewhere. Any thoughts or experience with Denso? I have heard good things, but not from any one I know personally.- DintDobbs

Project Vulture
Well, fellas, I've got a new problem. Over the last couple of weeks, I've had consistently unstable startups. It would crank and rev up strong, but often choke and stall immediately. Playing with the throttle during startup and keeping the RPM's around 1500 would prevent it from stalling...- DintDobbs

Personally I'd kind of be inclined to just swap in a complete transmission if you can find one around or under 150k miles (I've got one 5R55E at 197k with no record of a rebuild and another at 226k with no record of a rebuild), then rebuild that one when it starts having issues. @DemonMudder I've never had a reason to spend more than one afternoon and one morning here; the most I can see getting out of it, even with a big group, is three days (arrive the first afternoon, spend the night, stay all day the second day, spend the second night, leave the third afternoon)...- DintDobbs

Waking up this thread again, has anybody got any clearer ideas of when we might be looking to make this trip? Bought my 2001 explorer in 2003, never did plugs / wires, still runs fine at 191k
@2001sixcylinder I'd go ahead and change 'em for the reasons C420sailor and J_C said, and it might not be a bad idea to grab a spare coil pack from a junk yard or RockAuto.com. Change the wires with the plugs. I've had two 2nd-gen SOHC Explorers and both of them ate a coil pack within 6 months...- DintDobbs

If you turn O/D OFF like I always do when wheeling, you'll very definitely feel it skip 1 + OD and go directly from 1 to 2, with 4.10 gears. 3.73's might not kick you like 4.10's do, but after changing the Sport to 5.13's I can most definitely tell you that two out of five shifts are not done...- DintDobbs

@DemonMudder The window motor could be grabbing part of the lock/latch mechanism on the way down. @Fix4Dirt Not a fan of LED lights, personally. I prefer halogens because they deliver a constant, natural light. It's not as bright as LED's, sure, but it doesn't glare nearly as much, and it's much easier on the eyes. I don't know if other people can see it, but I can see the LED flicker...- DintDobbs

@DemonMudder If you can make the 2025 Uwharrie trip, I'd happily offload my old 4.10 ratio ring gears and pinions for both front and rear (front standard rotation Dana 35, rear 31 spline Ford 8.8). @Murraymountain Code A T-bars are a good move. I'm running Code B on mine, for different reasons, but you will enjoy the stiffer setup. I'm with you on avoiding the use of blocks to lower. I'd leave the spring under the axle for all the reasons. Honestly, for your application, I would...- DintDobbs
