Thinkware F750 front & rear dashcam hardwire install (Ford Explorer 2011-2017)
Installing the rear dashcam took me awhile, like solving a puzzle. This time I didn't have my mechanic brother to rip apart panels for me. The key part was figuring out the best way to run the dashcam cable through the rubber coiled tube. Best bet is to follow each step. Step 2, 3, and 4...- kmarnes

Thinkware F750 front & rear dashcam hardwire install (Ford Explorer 2011-2017)
Note: I've reposted this from another nearly unrelated thread. This is more of a "how I did it" thread, rather than asking a question. So it's taken a little while mostly piecemeal to get this thing setup properly, with a vacation in between. But first, let me tell you about this dashcam. The...- kmarnes

2017 Explorer Sport picked up!
Well I have just arrived home and tested it every which way. The cool air indeed appears to be air conditioned all the time, regardless of whether you are cranking heat, cold AC, or turning the main AC off entirely. The ambient temperature was 25C/77F. In all cases, the air felt cold and air...- kmarnes

That's definitely not true. It's blowing air conditioned air, because it is nice and cool. Now I'll pay attention to this as I'm about to commute home. I wonder how well the cooled seats work if you are blasting heat for example?- kmarnes

Fishing Rod Holder Ideas
Really the first thing that pops to my mind is -- couldn't you just use some sort of roof rack container? I imagine you would want something secure that the rods wouldn't be visible. Second idea if you want to MacGyver it, might be able to make use of the coat hooks that you could connect your...- kmarnes

So got an answer from Ford. 2017's built on or before August 18th do NOT get the 500 watt stereo. Any after that do. Weird they would make a switch like that mid-stream. Anyways, not a big deal for me. I bought it assuming I didn't have it, and I don't. I don't believe I've ever played the music...- kmarnes

How much gas left after the gauge says 0 miles??
Hah, no worries. I wasn't replying to you specifically... Floor mats/liners/cargo mats
Hmm, I might get that smaller deep well version. I'd like to protect the well from leaky groceries, or returning recycling, etc. When I bought my Explorer I checked out the longer version that only works when the 3rd rows are stowed away. It was a terrible design, as expected. While the mat...- kmarnes

How much gas left after the gauge says 0 miles??
I already said this before: The reason the gas tank is smaller than previous generations is because it is more fuel efficient and the smaller tank in the newer cars have the same range as the bigger tanks in the older generations. How is this "problem" different from any other gas car past...- kmarnes

I believe the Sport in Canada doesn't get it, even though it's an option for the Sport in the US. I think this is a good read: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ILwkrr86aA0/learn/learningcenter/car/stereo_power_ups.html I think the headlight test is an excellent one. Ford Extended Service Plans (ESP)
So to correct some of my earlier posts, I finally read the fine print and I do indeed have a $100 deductible on the elite+ plan. I don't know how I would check. You are right, it says it in the feature list -- when you look at it under radio as included as standard equipment. But there is no 401A group on the Canada Sport. There is a 400A which only says the plain 12 speaker version. When you compare models or view...- kmarnes

Small update. I've owned the car for exactly 3 weeks now, but I've only driven it for about half that time. Only a 14-15 gallon tank?- MY17
Also seems people seem to be hung up on actual fuel capacity, and complaining about small gas tanks in newer cars. I can only speculate that because new engines have better fuel economy than before, that they can make the fuel tanks smaller and still get the same range.- kmarnes

Only a 14-15 gallon tank?- MY17
Best way to calculate fuel economy (after break-in) is to keep gas receipts and write down your odometer reading on each receipt. Then do math.- kmarnes

Only a 14-15 gallon tank?- MY17
Even when your car says it's empty, it still has about 10% fuel in it. That's by design on pretty much every single car, because people are dumb, but probably more because actually running out of gas for real is not great for the engine. As for break-in, the manual (p.246) says this: You need...- kmarnes

Only a 14-15 gallon tank?- MY17
18.6 gal (70.4 L) is the actual capacity, so basically I don't think you were close to being empty. I've got a week old Explorer as well, and fuel economy is supposed to be poorer during break-in, and you are supposed to vary your speeds a lot for the first 1000miles. I'm getting about 13mpg on...- kmarnes

Why I am having trouble buying a new Explorer
Interesting thread... I'm not really sure what the fetish for a larger gas tank is. If you use premium over regular, you'll get more range -- and the cost difference is negligible per mile. The newer Explorers have more fuel efficient engines. While I just bought a 2017 Explorer Sport a week...- kmarnes
