Hit & Run : 2016 Sport
Wow, glad everyone is okay. Crazy her airbags went off and yours didn't. Kind of seems like hers shouldn't have gone off. My wife is a lawyer (in Canada), but she deals with this type of stuff all the time. Insurance companies will get away with whatever they can, and lawyers can make a big...- kmarnes

Adaptive cruise control + collision warning with brake assist
I've had my 2017 Explorer for a week now and really liking these features. Before I bought it, I didn't get to experience them and was unsure how they would work in practice. And so far, I'm really liking these features. So I'd thought I'd share for the others that might be wondering how this...- kmarnes

2017 Explorer Fuse Box (looking for 12V constant power) for dashcam
The red wire was definitely accessory only (not smart switched). Because as soon as we turned off the car, the dashcam went into parking mode. It's good to know about the smart switched (cig/USB). Makes sense.- kmarnes

2017 Explorer Fuse Box (looking for 12V constant power) for dashcam
Yeah, it a little nerve-wracking to say the least. I was a big fan of fuse taps before. There's just something safe about knowing that you probably won't mess anything up. But having used a fuse tap in my last car, and removed everything in order to prep it for sale, it took a long time to...- kmarnes

2017 Explorer Fuse Box (looking for 12V constant power) for dashcam
Okay, so I visited my family today. My brother is a real mechanic. I'm not. He basically said, fuse taps are for losers, and the fuse box is in such a ridiculously difficult access point. Also it wasn't really an option given that the fuses in the 2017s are Micro2/3 and nearly impossible to find...- kmarnes

2017 Explorer Fuse Box (looking for 12V constant power) for dashcam
Update: To be continued... Foiled at the fuse part. As soon as I pulled the fuses from #32 and #35, I immediately realized they were a different size than the mini fuses I had in my prior Honda, so I can't use the fuse splitters I bought for them. Drove to Canadian tire 20 minutes before they...- kmarnes

2017 Explorer Fuse Box (looking for 12V constant power) for dashcam
Thanks so much for your advice on identifying fuses. I'll give them a go and a quick test with my multimeter. Indeed the contortion level to wire up fuses in this thing is ridiculous. As for ground, any bolt on the chassis will do. Will pick one that is out of the way... but finding one...- kmarnes

2017 Explorer Fuse Box (looking for 12V constant power) for dashcam
Wow. Found the fuse box buried deep under the driver side. Super awkward to get to. Has anyone tried to power a dashcam directly to the fuse box using fuse splitters? I've got a Thinkware F750 which is special because it can detect a bump even when the car is off to catch those parking lot hit...- kmarnes

2017 roof rack rails - how to fit a Yakima rack to these rails ideas?
Ford Explorer only supports 45lbs of weight with a moon roof and 100lbs without. Granted, it appears to be a center of mass issue, rather than a structural issue. Details are in the owners manual. I did not know this before I purchased... but at least I didn't have any gear from a prior...- kmarnes

Was just wondering because with the Ford Employee pricing + Costco discounts + reasonable interest rates (1.9% over 4 years), there's not much more you can do outside of reducing doc fees, getting free floor mats, etc. I didn't pay for the $410 "security marking thingy". 2017 Explorer Sport picked up!
UX stands for User eXperience, short hand for good user interface design. Of all the car brands I've test driven, Audi's new Virtual ****pit is the best in the business (redesigned Q7, A4, TT). They are aggressively adding it in all their new models. Volvo's XC90 was the worst because they put...- kmarnes

Good reads on the paint articles, learned a few things. And they were right. I don't think lighter colors makes a car look cleaner when dirty except possibly in locales that suffer long brutal winters with lots of road salt -- oh wait, that is you, isn't it?! ;). 2.3L EcoBoost or NA 3.5L?
I have only test driven and subsequently purchased the 3.5L V6 Ecoboost, so I don't know what the other engines are like, so this is just my opinion. In Canada, I was able to get a 10 year, 120,000km ESP Premium plan for $2900 CAD inclusive of factory warranty -- so it expires Aug 2026. The quoted price was ~$3400. I just bought a 2017 Explorer Sport and read through other replies so just adding some new perspective. BLIS is great. 2016 Explorer LED Fog Lights option??
Okay here are some shots I took this morning to figure out what was what. Hopefully it helps others figure out what they want to do. 2016 Explorer LED Fog Lights option??

2016 Explorer LED Fog Lights option??
My 2017 Explorer Sport has yellow halogen fog lamps. It does look weird because it's so yellow, though I would only use them in actual fog conditions. And like others said, it makes sense that brighter lights would reflect back and be ineffective. Purchased a Canadian spec, nowhere are fog lamps...- kmarnes
