Which OEM tires come on Explorers?
Last winter in Vancouver was quite a lot... mainly because we don't have the infrastructure to clear the roads properly, so we literally had skating rinks for streets. But I had winter tires anyways, because I take skiing seriously and actually drive to mountains and to the interior. Sun Peaks...- kmarnes

Which OEM tires come on Explorers?
My factory Hankooks have been fine since day 1. When it comes to replace them, I'll just get whatever seems good. I'll probably go for pure summers over all-season since I already have dedicated winter tires.- kmarnes

How common is towing package?
I'd say check this out. You basically want two things to get the 5000lb towing capability: Either V6 engine (NA or Ecoboost) Class III towing package Both of those are guaranteed with either a Sport or Platinum trim model but I'm only certain about recent model years. The Sport was...- kmarnes

looking for honest opinions on 5th Gen Ex
For 150% the cost of a loaded Sport, you can get a similarly equipped/performing Audi Q7 and that has a longitudinal engine and a supercharger instead of twin turbos (supercharger eats more gas, but the mileage of the Q7 is superior to the Explorer, plus it has a ZF-8). It was my first pick over...- kmarnes

looking for honest opinions on 5th Gen Ex
Nice info David. Here's some comments: If you had a 2017 with Sync 3, your entertainment issues would be gone -- super fast, responsive, etc. I find the seats quite comfortable and I'm 6'2". One seat adjustment that stumped me for a long time is that you can independently control the height...- kmarnes

Regular Scheduled Maintenance Question
Don't want to play roulette with my extended warranty on my new car. The way I'm playing this is the dealer gets to do absolutely everything including all oil changes, so if anything ever goes wrong, there won't be any problems. Even if that means I pay a little more. So far my dealer has been...- kmarnes

Regular Scheduled Maintenance Question
I pay $100 Canadian every six months for scheduled oil change and general inspection/rotation/etc. And I get a nice car wash with it. I'm sure there will be bigger service intervals in the future. Here's the link for the scheduled maintenance. You can adjust the sliders for your engine and...- kmarnes

Non-Stop Door Locking Issue - SecuriCode?
A long, long time ago, I got nailed by an ocean wave that took me down and my key fob got soaked. As I approached my car, the locks went psychotic. Eventually the fob dried out and everything was fine. You could potentially see about pulling a fuse to see if you can disable the touch pad and...- kmarnes

looking for honest opinions on 5th Gen Ex
I found the Explorer to be pretty much the best 7 seater for the price. I wanted a hefty engine and none of the Asian cars can provide, and all of the European equivalents are much more expensive. For me it came down between the Audi Q7 and the Explorer. I went Explorer because of the...- kmarnes

General SYNC3 CarPlay Questions
I don't like the default color scheme, and basically keep it in "night mode" all the time, which has a dark grey background and fits the look of the Explorer on the inside better. Maps look way better too. And way less obnoxious. So that could be another option for you. Also I turned off...- kmarnes

Broken Outside Mirror
I broke both my mirrors in two separate car accidents in my 2017 Sport. One was my fault, one was the other guys fault. 2016 sport. Transmission slips
I know you are describing clutch slip characteristics, but it might sound similar to what I call "bad transmission programming". For me, the particular characteristic is when you are at a slower cruising speed (50km/h or 30mph), and you decide to goose it. The engine hesitates, then surges. Is...- kmarnes

I took your advice, luckily. I bought the 2017 Sport new and got a 10 year extended warranty. Cost me $2900 Canadian. And because I bought the warranty, they gave me a good car that won't break down. Zero problems so far and loving it (after 9 months and 8000km).- kmarnes

Ouch. Well I hope you saved a ton of money as a result of buying a lemon that makes up for the large repair bill... it's possible you could get a mechanic to look at it and determine if it was patched up to hide it. Thinkware F750 front & rear dashcam hardwire install (Ford Explorer 2011-2017)
I have a contact with Thinkware in Vancouver. The F770s are completely out of stock due to high demand, mostly sucked up in the US.
