    Neat little upgrades / accessories

So you had your car in accessory mode for 2 hours without the engine running? I'm surprised the car wouldn't warn you before it's too late or auto shut off. Many dashcams now have a built in voltage detector for auto shutoff for the types that are hardwired to your constant power for parking...

    Picked up a 17 Sport & Question

Here's my 17 sport in Quartz. This was last fall right after I got winter rim/tires installed. So that's the emblems on the front. Does yours differ?

    Roof Cargo Bag?

Sounds cool! Be aware of parking garages now. The car is about 5'11" and that'll likely add another 18" or so taking you to approximately 7.5 feet clearance. With my lower profile one, I was barely okay parking at my work -- in fact I bought it to fit.

Two days in a 2017 XLT

Yeah, I experienced the double pull on a few occasions, but it has me trained now. Generally it's quite quick.

    Uncomfortable front seats

It is a bit confusing, but good. There's really more of a "front raise/lower" and a "general raise/lower". It's the front part I don't think many people know about. For what it's worth, at 6'2", I find the seats very comfortable. But I can see some people getting tripped up if the front part...

    Uncomfortable front seats

I had an epiphany regarding seat comfort. I've had my 2017 Explorer for nine months now and I literally just discovered an additional adjustment that can make the seats feel really weird. I'm aware of all the obvious controls such as height, how far back, angle of seat, lumbar strength... but...

    Roof Cargo Bag?

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about the weight limit, as long as you are reasonable. I figured I was carrying about 100lbs of ski gear in my 52lb cargo rack and I have a sun roof, so 45lb limit. No problems. But I got a much wider and lower profile cargo container, and wasn't racing...

    seats discolored

When I was considering the Explorer Platinum, I was curious about the light leather, and the sales person recommended strongly against getting them, admitting that they tend to stain from clothing. Black leather is the best. White leather looks striking in person, especially with the ambient...

    Pedal Placement

I'm going to go with AFKNinja on this one. It was very noticeable when I first got the Explorer and have driven lots of different types of cars. But I actually like having that amount of depth separation. Feels safer to drive. There have been a couple instances where I accidentally touched both...

Help a new guy decide! XSport, SHO or Durango R/T

I also bought a 2017 Sport, 9 months ago! I toiled a lot and the Ford wasn't even on my radar until a month before purchase. I compared the crap out of a lot of vehicles, and the Durango never made my short list. I wanted the 2017 Audi Q7 but it was 50% more expensive and sanity kicked in. The...

    Helping wife buy 2017 Platinum

You should be able to get 10-12% off MSRP if you play hard ball. I got 11% off mine during Ford Employee Pricing with Costco rebate. Didn't have to negotiate.

2014 Ford Explorer Sport won't start

Yep, I bet your battery is near the end of it's life. My wife's car had a similar problem when I installed her dashcam. Kept powering down due to voltage limit (our dashcams have constant power). It's a 2014, it's probably time (4 years old).

2014 Ford Explorer Sport won't start

Well that's good, and cheap to fix :) Is it possible your battery is at the end of it's life? If so, best to replace it before it takes the alternator with it. Bad battery will over-stress the alternator.

2014 Ford Explorer Sport won't start

Electical can be finicky. To be clear, I meant check your fuses in your engine compartment, not your interior -- seems the bigger fuses are there, some of which are responsible for starting the car. In any case, at least those ones are easy to access and easy to test.
  16. K

2014 Ford Explorer Sport won't start

I'd say test your fuses in the engine compartment. Fuse 18, for example, is the push button start. Is it possible you triggered some sort of short? Btw, the interior fuse box is horribly inaccessible, right?

    Helping wife buy 2017 Platinum

The 2017 Explorer Sport is the first new car I've ever purchased, and the first Ford I've purchased in over 15 years. Sport and Platinum are nearly identical. I only went Sport because the interior loses all traces of wood trim and that was more important than having a few extra features. I'm...

    Ford Explorer Emblems

That would go well with my smoked quartz sport. How do you take the old ones off and put the new ones on? Are there bolts in the back?

    General SYNC3 CarPlay Questions

I've tried that before, but then as far as I recall, my Spotify streaming no longer works in that situation. I could be wrong. Now I'll have to try it again and see. I'll report back later tonight.

    General SYNC3 CarPlay Questions

There are basically two different modes. Wired CarPlay vs Bluetooth. When wired, you are using the CarPlay interface on the car, which includes the inferior navigation, and different voice commands for making phone calls, different UI for playing music. I use Spotify. Generally speaking, I use...

That looks really nice. Btw, for a tip on how to post pics without an elite membership, you can just embed the link to a pic. Just Ordered my 2017 Explorer Limited

I wonder if that "other location" is some sort of customs clearance step and/or distribution holding area before going out to individual dealers.

    Issues and dealer response.

As a car gets older, AC systems will eventually fail and generally don't live as long as the car, but I wouldn't expect there to be many issues with a 2015, unless it's gone through the wringer. They can get dirty and/or the compressor can wear out, along with lots of other things. They usually...

    What happened?

Right, just the Cherokee, 4Runner, Land Rover, etc? Modern times happened, demand for family carrying capability happened, and the vast majority of these cars never leave the road.
  28. K

    Issues and dealer response.

You've got a 2013, so it's still pretty new. If I were you, I'd just keep the repairs up, especially warranty issues dealt with (is your warranty still good?), and then save up to buy a new Sport/Platinum model. My 2017 is only 8 months old now, but I haven't had any problems. Everything works...

That's hilarious and probably true. He annoyingly hijacked a few other threads this morning posting pictures of his bubbled hood when it wasn't relevant. Attitude often goes a long way when dealing with others....

    Accessing cabin fuse box??

Some wires have constant power and some don't (accessory). That applies to both wires and fuses. In the case of my dashcam install, I needed one of each.

Is this a normal pattern ?

I do think I get it. I'm a fan of German cars too, but they are different.

Is this a normal pattern ?

So just curious, was your reasoning for getting the Explorer for exclusivity reasons? I lived in the UK for a couple years and saw lots of tiny cars. We had a "giant Passat". The Explorer would be a beast there, but they do have the Land Rovers. And years ago, people here in North America were...

    Accessing cabin fuse box??

The fusebox is so horrible, that the path of least resistance is to do a hardwire. I may be exaggerating slightly... You have two options to really consider -- hardwiring to the A-pillar, or hardwiring to the roof controls. Here's a DIY thread for my dashcam install.

Is this a normal pattern ?

I see three unusual differences here: This guy lives in Germany and drives at much higher speeds than the rest of us. Fuel/oil mixtures in Germany could potentially be different than North America. Aftermarket chrome exhaust tips, which might be more prone to catching the soot. I have to say...

2017 Explorer Sync 3 Display Goes Black, then reboots.

I had it happen once to me in 8 months. It's basically just a graceful reboot on crash, so I'm not too bothered by it. If it happened more frequently then I would look to getting a software update for it. And it's possible it's known but not fixed yet. So I wouldn't worry about your car being...

    What happened?

How horrible would it be to desire sliding doors on an Explorer? Also if you want something that will properly offroad, get the new Raptor with supercrew. Excellent seating for 5.

Almost Ready to Buy a 2017 Limited

Not completely true. I was completely set on getting the new Audi SQ5 or Q7, until I ran the numbers. This Explorer is the first Ford I've owned since the year 2000. It wasn't even on my radar until I got a $1000 Costco rebate email for Ford Employee pricing in July 2016, so I futzed around and...
