2003 Ford Explorer Cranks But No Start
With key off, red indicator on dashboard blinks on, then off, every 3-4 seconds. Turning key to ON will cause the red light to illuminate solid ON for 10 seconds, if no further key movement occurs, then off, if key is turned to START, red light goes off, engine cranks normally. If PATS detects...- imp

Key won't turn when very cold.
WD-40 is a product I once used extensively, until I found it left a sticky, non-lubricating residue behind after I sprayed it on the ways and machine finishes of my Bridgeport Mill. Won't have the **** in my shop anymore.- imp

In production, they keep drums from wobbling around as wheels are installed. Ford calls them "Tinnerman" nuts. Can be removed by using linesman pliers to unscrew them.- imp

Hi! I am new to the forum and have a weird issue with a just rebuilt 2005 Ford 4.0 head gasket
Sometimes debris and or oil has collected in the head bolt threaded holes in the block. It can become trapped by the bolt, preventing it from tightening properly. I would remove the head bolts one by one, leaving them tight, blow out each hole with compressed air, then retorque them. The leak...- imp

Anyone have the toe-angle spec's on a Explorer/Mountaineer. 2004, AWD, v6, 4liter.
Published specs no, sorry, but FWIW, front driving wheels are often set at zero to slight TOE OUT, since deflections in the suspension and drive system allow the wheels to track outwards while pulling the car forward.- imp

Temp sensor stripped
Usable info. a 3/8-npt (National Pipe Thread) part is actually ABOUT 5/8-inch diameter across the threads (male), and the length of the threaded portion is TAPERED. Reason 3/8-pipe is so big is the 3/8 relates to the inside diameter of 3/8-inch standard steel pipe. More confusion: Copper pipe...- imp

Solved Fuel pressure problem.
Vapor lock is virtually nonexistent with efi because the boiling point of gasoline held at 35 psi is quite high. At typical temperatures encountered underhood, bp can range from about 95 degrees f and up, depending on many factors, including blending of the fuel. Actual boiling rarely occurs...- imp

Solved Fuel pressure problem.
Keep in mind here the two different needs: fuel pressure REGULATION is the maintaining of pressure usable by the PCM programming for the injectors to run the engine, while PRESSURE RELIEF is keeping the maximum pressure developed at a safe level not capable of causing damage of any kind.- imp

Yep. For a few years, a Fuel Pump Module separate of the PCM handled returnless data, but somewhere along the way that was incorporated entirely into the PCM.- imp

Solved Fuel pressure problem.
A regulator may be thought of as a valve, operating in the fuel circuit, just like a variable resistor in an electrical circuit controls the flow of current, only we are controlling the flow of a liquid, fuel. the amount of engine vacuum present determines the position of a diaphragm, which...- imp

Solved Fuel pressure problem.
Consider that a closed, pressurized volume of fuel, like a fuel line, where the source of pressure (pump) is not running, will only bleed away a small quantity of fuel because liquid is incompressible, so remaining pressure would drop quickly to zero with only small amount of fuel leaking away...- imp

2002 with a 5r55s???
Yes, interchanging these transmissions introduces a mechanical issue: the gears engaged in 2nd. gear have differing numbers of teeth, thus causing shaft speeds to be outside of the computer's range of acceptance.- imp

2002 with a 5r55s???
5R55W and 5R55S should either "work". Only problem is different 2nd. gear ratios between the two. 5R55S should work, causing trouble code for wrong gear ratio from what the PCM is programmed to. Something is therefore suspect with your 5R55S.- imp

U-Joint Angles
Oil seal friction is variable, based on type, condition, lubrication, so for most accurate bearing preload torque, it is best to establish that w/o the seal. However, using the crush type washer makes it necessary to put the whole thing together at once. For normal driving conditions, the crush...- imp

U-Joint Angles
You have my attention! Disadvantage of crush washers is that very heavy loading/usage of the gears can result in some removal of load from the washer, especially if it was used previously, thus allowing minute play between bearings, loss of preload, plus loss of nut tightness. When Ford got...- imp

U-Joint Angles
Keep in mind the use of standard U-Joints on Corvette rear drive axles: in 1967 I heard horror stories, corroborated, of great numbers of failed rear axle U-joints with big engines. Replacement Transmission for 2007 XLT
Primary difference between 5R55s and 5R55W is second gear ratio; use of one instead of the other confounds the PCM which detects unexpected shaft speeds in 2nd. gear as slippage of band or clutch.- imp

My point is not to change the driveline angles, but rather consider that given easy means of installation and removal of the shafts if necessary, splined slip joints front and back might remove the need for u-joints altogether. U-Joint Angles
It has always been emphasized by Dana Spicer Engineering that they like to see about 2 degrees of misalignment between connections to a Cardan (Universal Joint): This allows for equalization of wear in the parts, promoting long life.
