    P0138 - O2 Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2

@bhmayor 4 sensors are located 1 each at either end of the 2 Cat Converters, either side of the engine. Right Hand side is called "passenger" or "Bank 1"; LH is "Driver Side", or Bank 2. The sensors closest to the engine are numbered "1"; the ones beyond the Cats are "2". Therefore, sensor...

    Turbo issues?

@NCcarguy I can understand the lack of power issue being unrelated to transmission: what the hell could it be, slipping, but not "detectable"? So, power production failure, by whatever cause. But vibration? From transmission? Not without something busted, real bad rotating assembly, etc. OR...

4.0 SOHC - when did it become reliable?

@plasticseng Personally, I began using Texaco Havoline way back in the '50s, always regarded it highly because it derived from Texas crude rather than Ohio. Texas was Naphthenic, distillate-bsed, Ohio Parafinnic, wax=based: know what wax is like? My brand-new Mustang 289 H.P. used NO havoline...

5R55S P0775 issue - lesson learned, damage done?

@sleseman Locknuts can loosen up. If that's all that happened, worst is the band slipped a lot while shifting: nice smooth shifts! If it seems to be working normally, leave it alone. imp

    Rattle (?) with throttle closed

@C420sailor How bad is it? Sound risky, or just annoying? I'd go in and check for something loose in the inlet air ductwork, outside or in, have seen thongs wiggling about making noise under no-load conditions. Possibility of front CV joint wear making noise when not transmitting hardly any...

Rear wheel bearings replace and rear diff ?????

@Larryjb His OP stated 2004: independent. I wouldn't take all the effort if I thought it were a solid axle, I've caught Makuloc in several mistakes, cleverly hidden, like a "bad" rear wheel speed sensor causing ridiculous non-related symptoms, but fixed them. Watch for B.S.

2002 Explorer 5R55W Trans Won't Go Into Any Gear, No Codes

@marfar Low fluid is not detectable directly by the PCM (computer), only indirectly by incorrect shaft speeds or solenoid operation. Check that. Broken/damaged oil pump or drive ditto, no fluid pressure. Accessible only with removal of trans. Check idling eng. fluid pressure at side of...

    4x4 and tranny issues

@lynnboy021 First, depressing the 4X4 HIGH button does NOTHING with the t-case motor, which ONLY shifts t-case into and out of 4X4 LOW. 4X4 HIGH is a SWITCH which turns on an electronic clutch in the t-case. When 4X4 AUTO is depressed as in all normal driving, the clutch is controlled...

    Electrical Issue

@DrHalfHand Acid from the battery finds it's way under the connections at the terminals, corrodes them (the posts and "grippers" around them), and can eat it's way up into the strands of individual wires quite a way back into the cables. This reduces both the cables' ability to carry heavy...

    Brake Module Failure

@blwnsmoke Not so simple, in reality, when one looks at all it's guts (assuming we're talking ABS Module). MUST HAVE VIN downloaded into it to extinguish ABS light. Functions with wrong VIN, however, light on constantly, which overshadows sight of added faults. imp

    Advice on Transmission, possible failure - 2003 Explorer 4.6 L V8

@AZMonte The Transmission Range Sensor is the KEY part calling for initial engagement of all gears: R, N, D, 3, 2, 1. It is simply a switch which turns the solenoids on and off which control the hydraulic fluid flow to the appropriate engagement parts. If it fails, becomes loose (held in place...

    Problem with AWD performance?

The moot point here overall is that regardless of presence of limited-slip diff gears or open gears, if ONE WHEEL in back, or front, or both, spins faster than the other, the difference in speeds is being made up by spinning differential gears, which are basically doing very little. imp

    Top End Engine Noise

    Transfer case question

@96eb96 Pretty unlikely, I think. Because AWD must have provision to be driven with freedom of rotational speed differences between front and rear wheels. Use of the typical 4X4 case with electronic clutch could provide 4X4 AUTO, but only yield RWD when clutch was OFF. Not suitable IMY for...

    Front Wheel Hubs

@michael loibl Start thinking about retiring where minimal noise and confusion exist. Human beings were not intended to live as you describe. Grew up in Chicago, not talking out of my ass. Many formerly rural states are now off the list: Colorado, California, Oregon, etc. due to ever-more...

2007 Ford Explorer Passenger Side CV axle Will Not Slide in

@massacre Good idea except clearance between OD of male spline on axle and ID of inner shaft is too small to allow circlip to fit in between the two shafts. Deepening groove in inner axle will work, if necessary, but should not be. The factory can get them together, thus so should we (little...

How do you unplug the Bank 2 O2 sensor plug?

@J_C Please note that the aftermarket sensor connector lacks the orienting lugs of the original, which allows the one shown to plug into ETHER front or rear position (there are 2 sensors, NOT alike). The lugs were excluded to allow servicing of non-Ford vehicles with that same sensor. Below is...

97 automatic 4WD...Can I use the rear diff in the front?

@pcrussell50 If this video embeds, and you are adequately familiar with the Torsen, you will easily see that they are essentially the same. Eaton bought copyright rights, then built their own, possibly compromising some areas of strength (or maybe not!)

2002 Explorer new (rebuilt engine) coding P0442

@McFudden And there lies the problem, probably. The "Evaporative System" is an additional "reservoir" which "stores" fuel VAPOR, not liquid gasoline. It consists of a cannister filled with charcoal, usually mounted up front somewhere, but not always. It is connected by hollow tubing, metal and...

    Welding lug nut stud

@J_C New holes is a good suggestion, and I've done it using 1997 F-150 wheels, which are very close to 5 on 5.5", (actually are 5 on 135mm), 5 on 5.5 are actually 5 on 139.7mm. The metrics, 5 on 135mm, have straight-through holes, with no taper; the lug nuts have a straight shoulder snug...

    Welding lug nut stud

@Floridaexplorer43 Bottom line is, if the holes ARE badly wallowed out, welding of any kind from the back will still allow bending of the studs to a degree, no matter how tight they are. So, failure by breaking off is a possibility. imp

    4x4 does not work

@Abc12 4X4 LOW is engaged by the 4X4 drive motor, mounted on the transfer case. Generally, the 4X4 LOW light does not illuminate unless the motor has shifted the TC into LOW. Therefore, I would suspect the problem lies within the TC. imp

    Welding lug nut stud

@Floridaexplorer43 Of course, welding a stud in place means if you break that one, you use only the remaining 4, or throw away the hub. Those striated upraised portions on the shank of the stud hold it from falling out backwards when the wheel is removed, as well as keep the stud from turning...

Does it matter how the fuel lines are connected on 3 line fuel filter

@Drewmcg Think it comes back to me now: Ford wanted to eliminate the return line, and the first attempt was the deal described here, where fuel was returned to the tank from the location of the filter only. My '04 has no return line at all, and DOES have a new sensor, called the Fuel Pressure...
