High Pressure Radiator Cap?
Use of a higher than recommended pressure in the cooling system can cause serious problems, if the radiator itself is not designed to operate at higher than usual pressure. 16 psi is commonly the highest supplied cap by manufacturers. I have seen radiator structures visibly contract upon release...- imp

TCM being "Transmission Control Module"? This is a new addition, then? Transmission control has always been handled by the PCM in the past (2004+). Regardless, though, control is not being "controlled".- imp

Transmission problem
Your concern is evident, and significant. Your Dealer apparently does not understand thoroughly the operating principles of these new transmissions. IMO, if this problem were a common one, news of it would have Ford jumping up and down; thus it is probably unusual. My guess would be the...- imp

Explorer won't start, chewed wires.
Pack rats are even worse. Had battery cables chewed through! Had a fire start where a plug cable was chewed through leaving about a half-inch gap: arc caught insulation on fire, which caught coil, then plastic intake manifold. Fortunately, I caught it in time driving to town, bought a plug wire...- imp

Possibly the best I've used for batteries is the super-flexible cable made for arc welding. Oil-resistant insulation, many fine strands, very easily in stalled, but best clamped well in place. I have big, heavy solid copper lugs for bolt terminal ends. Note the large metal area around the...- imp

Battery Cable Gauge Size OEM
Battery cables were heavier gauge back when 6-volt batteries were the norm. High-grade cars (like my Dad's Lincoln) had fat cables, maybe 1-0 gauge. Almost unbendable. Today, with starting currents lower (higher operating voltage, 12V), the cables are chintzier by far. I've picked up jumper...- imp

Under the hood, RH side (passenger side) below the hood hinge supports, you can see the 3 big connectors hooked to the computer (PCM) which is mounted INSIDE the vehicle on the firewall. Removal, or access, requires removal of the plastic RH side foot "kick-plate" in the vehicle. Two bolts...- imp

Battery Issues
A poor connection cannot drain a battery. However, big accumulations of crud over the top surface of the battery (which contain electrically-conductive acid) have been known to slowly drain a battery, though very quietly and not noticeably. 5 years is a decent lifetime for low-quality batteries...- imp

1999 Ford Explorer XLT - Strange Fuel Pump Issue

Engine or Transmission Swap?
Maybe, but only a highly experienced builder can answer positively. One of the most critical specs in auto transmissions is the spacing of internal assemblies with respect to each other. Who knows what size fuel line our 06-10 ex’s use
Vapor Lock occurs when the fuel gets hot enough to BOIL, thereby creating liquidless areas of gas. At the pressures used with efi systems, vapor lock is a thing of the past. Torque converter
A torque converter can only drain out 1/2 of it's contents if it's standing still, all through the center. The rest sits in the bottom half below the center hole. If spinning, none can drain back; the running engine pumps the fresh converter full of oil, which fills it from the outside in.- imp

"Interference" vs "Non-interference"
Many, if not most (all Fords I've seen were) front crank vibration dampers have two steel rings bonded together by a rubber interface. With extreme age, they do loosen and shift. Bad news. Aftermarket dampers may do away with the bond, I don't know for sure.- imp

Major Engine Failure
The SOHC is said to be NON-INTERFERENCE. As such, the timing of valve motion, broken or skipped chain cannot cause piston/valve interference, IF it's non-interference design. The broken off land on the piston is likely a fluke in manufacturing, possibly heat treating.- imp

"Interference" vs "Non-interference"
This is true. But the VOLUME generated by the valves' movement amounts to only a few cubic inches, out of many needed for correct compression ratio, say, 50cc, or about 3 cubic inches, it would seem the combustion chamber volume could be built around the valves' intrusion into the cylinder...- imp

"Interference" vs "Non-interference"
Anyone willing to take a crack at this? I've been trying to imagine why, in this age of OHC engines, anyone would offer an interference engine? Obviously, both types exist.
