To cam or not to cam? 4.0 OHV
Picked up the heads. $350.00 Here's the comments on the si valves from the machine shop: The Good: Stainless steel swirl polished valves usually cost twice of what we are paying. The bad: They gave the heads a 3 angle valve job, decked the heads and installed the valves. Then they did a vacuum...- Dono

I tried to get pics, but my camera phone didn't really do very well. The pics look pretty bad. When I run my finger along the smoothed out area's things are pretty smooth with rough edges removed. First pic is a before. I didn't do anything to the intake side other than a bit of bowl work.- Dono

Yup, new gaskets and head bolts. Its too late to ask him to cc before and after. I'm picking them up this afternoon. All gasket surfaces are prepped on the motor, head gaskets laying in place, cylinders and lifters cleaned and oiled/assembly lubed. I'm ready to put the heads back on.- Dono

Turbocharging a stock 4.0 SOHC Explorer
oops, sorry. Forced induction is all my brain processed. As far as the motors concerned on the intake side, boost is boost I would think. Only other factor is intake air temperature, correct? And, yes, some guys have turbo'd their rides. The exhaust work seems like its a lot more work than...- Dono

Well, I'm going ahead with the hair cut on the heads. .020 The machine shop is doing 3 angle valve job, and installing the valves for me also. I picked up some grade 8 bolts and anti-seize for the exhaust manifolds. The factory studs seem to be more of a pain in the a$$ than anything. I...- Dono

replaced heads on 96 4.0, still runs bad
Hows the compression in the cylinders? Spark? How about injectors? While the miss is happening, you can remove one plug wire, see if the miss gets worse, and plug the wire back in. Move to the next plug wire. Do the same thing. This should at least give you an idea which cylinder is missing.- Dono

The manifolds off your OHV will not work. I'm guessing you need manifolds off an explorer SOHC. The real issue is the electronics, I would think.- Dono

Your funny! If I can get what I have working really efficiently, I'll be happy. The 422 cam would have been nice. It doesn't really appear to have any more overlap than the 411 cam. I think with slightly increased compression, the 422 is the only way to go.- Dono

Valves are here, Just finished pulling the heads. I'm a bit concerned that I don't see anything obvious wrong with the one head. Valves appear to be closed, valves look good on it. Oh boy. I sure hope the issue isn't rings on cyl's 1 and 3 giving me the 90psi. I'll be using the warranty...- Dono

4.0 ohv rocker spacers
Anyone want any? I know a guy that is going to make a run of them. I'm not a dealer, or am I making a dime off this. I'm guessing this is a one shot deal. $30.00 + Shipping. They are rumoured to help with valve train noise, and give a little less resistance to the moving rockers. I...- Dono

Noisy ValveTrain-OHV...........Delta Rockers?
Here's a link with pictures of the rocker assy's http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=78573 I see we would not use full assy's, just the Rockers themselves. Now, how can the ratio change on the rocker assy unless you are able to move the rod a little bit that the rockers mount to? I'm not...- Dono

I ordered valves on Monday Nov 31, and hopefully the valves show up by the 10 th of November. I'll pull my motor apart over the long weekend and see what the big problem is. Exactly. You shave some material off the bottom of the head. This makes the combustion chamber smaller, raising your compression ratio. Yes, I knew the exhaust exit ports were smaller, but as I read it didn't seem to be a huge deal. I guess I was wrong. I think I will take the time to...- Dono

So, Delta sys their oversized push rods are 50 over stock. Stock push rods are 5.475. So that means the Delta's are 5.525. Correct? That would mean with shaving .020 off the heads, the new length required would be 5.505 Geez, I feel like I'm splitting hairs.- Dono

I'd have done the 422 cam if I could have brought up my compression to a reasonable level. I just couldn't see how to do it without pulling the motor and dropping different pistons in. With the auto tranny and low compression, it just didn't make sense for me. I think I'll pull the heads...- Dono
