Significant amount of oil in intake
Yes, on my aerostar it is at the back of the drivers side valve cover at goes a couple inches into the intake manifold. The system is a loop, if one side gets plugged, or unable to suck the air through it is like putting a straw in a glass.- Josh P

Going to inspect a 1994 Explorer XLT 4x4 - 117k
If the transmission had regular service and it wasn't driven like a rental car it would have a lot of life left. All the older fords I have bought needed bushings. The climate here in phoenix seems to do that to rubber. If you are lucky none of the fluids have been changed so you can get a good...- Josh P

1993 E-4WD Aerostar with 4WD codes.
9 flashes is either a front or rear wheel sensor or the clutch in the transfer case. Could be a bad ground or no power. The link has the test procedure for each fault code. The Explorer diff is different than the awd aerostar. Check the tag on the rear axle, the gear ratio must be 3.73. There is...- Josh P

How to: 4.0 ohv/sohc performance t5 hybrid transmission
The shifter worked fine, only issue I had was when I got traction it would bump it out of 1st gear. If I were to do it again, I'd do it how you are. When I started the project, the van was used for work. I drove 100 to 200 miles a day and the A4LD died 8 months after I bought the van. There...- Josh P

You asked about the transmission mount. I made brackets to secure the Mustang cross member to the van. That rubber mount can't be bought separate from ford.- Josh P

How to: 4.0 ohv/sohc performance t5 hybrid transmission
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=382254&page=2 post #33 has the pictures. I had a 3.5 inch driveshaft made first, but a 4th gear top end test taught me about harmonics so I upsized it to 4 inch. The parts I used and made were crude, not having access to any real tools. How to: 4.0 ohv/sohc performance t5 hybrid transmission
When I went from an A4LD to T5 in my 91 aerostar van the drive shaft went from 46 inches to 68.5 inches. I made everything work in stock form out of the mustang. I used hydraulic hose with AN style fittings crimped on the end. I bought the new and old style disconnects that thread on. Some sites...- Josh P

Camper towing worthy.
I was curious about how tall of a tire would fit the van so I got the spare out of my 99 grand cherokee, it is a 29 inch diameter. It is larger than the wheel well. I'd hit the junk yard to find a cheap wheel with a 27.5 inch tire to see how it fits. If you jack the van up by the body that would...- Josh P

Narrow wheel wells, you may need more lift to fit anything tall in the front. A 245 45 R17 won't fit without rubbing.- Josh P

I just drove my Aerostar to Florida and back to Ohio!
Sounds to me like a dirty maf sensor. When I bought my last van it did the same thing. My van doesn't have egr but my experience with it on my 87 2.9L ranger was when it was working it advanced the timing a few more degrees but never ran bad when deleted. I just set the base timing 4 degrees higher.- Josh P

I got out my repair manuals and based on the pictures you must use the aerostar bracket cause the ranger didn't have a belt tensioner. These yards have 1986 aerostar air conditioning parts listed. Most yards will box it up and ship it to you. Corona's Auto Parts 860-296-2528 B & B Auto Salvage...- Josh P

What was the fuel economy on that trip? I get 21.6 mpg every time I go from phoenix to albuquerque and 24.5 from phoenix to san luis obispo, ca. I can make it without stopping for gas to either destination.- Josh P

Manual transmission - towing in 5th gear

I don't have any hands on experience with the 2.8 but something to check is if the 83-85 ranger 2.8 brackets would work for the compressor. I know the ranger is v belt but if it is the same bracket you can buy a new compressor with the correct pulley and get the rest of the A/C parts off another...- Josh P

Manual transmission - towing in 5th gear
The M5OD is marginal at best at that is a lot of strain on that gear. Would the fuel savings be worth it if anything failed? What is the GCVWR of your sport with a manual trans?- Josh P

A/C in a non A/C equipped Aerostar van.
Adding a factory A/C really wouldn't be that hard. Worst part of the job would be changing the box under the dash for the evap. On my ranger I did the exact same thing that you want to do. I found the parts at a junk yard, installed them and had a shop wire it up with new wiring. Parts and shop...- Josh P
