Active Grille Shutters
I ended up looking at a platinum 2016 that's in my office parking lot. no active grill shutters. again I suspect it's due to the larger, more powerful ecoboost 3.5 V6 - and the need for more cooling in general.- Napalm

clear bra - stick on film or that new spray on stuff from 3M I'm planning on getting the 3 m stuff for my car. wash, clay bar, wash again (well rinse), then apply spray twice. hood, and perhaps bumper cover. and front edge of fenders.- Napalm

What did you do to your 5th Gen?
equally true - but it's a little safer over all. I used to carry CO2 in my racecar when I would racecar. I need to look for that aqueous foam device - I like the idea. works damn well on the ramp (we use then off plane, and in our main fire truck)- Napalm

What did you do to your 5th Gen?
uhm instead of halon I would use (have used) co2 bottles. I haven't seen one for a while but that's what I would use. Halon can be very very dangerous - because it's poisonous. it does work for it's function well but per various regulations it's really only intended for aircraft use. Co2...- Napalm

Shopping around for a SUV, suggestions please?
I'd honestly look to a slightly older land rover or even a 11-13 jeep grand cherokee. used. however not sure your trail etc etc but an AWD explorer would do OK. those other 2 would do much better IMO. and maybe consider a 4x4 f150 quad cab? with a bed cover or such.- Napalm

the base explorer fog light is a standard halogen bulb in a reflector fixtures. you can easily buy an LED bulb model retrofit - that would possibly be a cheaper alternatives. however the upper models come with LED fog lights. I think sport, platinum and option for limited. Honestly I...- Napalm

2016 Limited or Sport
I forget the check the tow rating on the base V6 and the ecoboost 4 - I think the base v6 will tolerate 5000 lbs. which sounds like your range. and thus would save you some money - however again I wouldn't tow with a explorer to start with but that's a whole other rant for another time. on...- Napalm

while I will say the new dry fibre filters that are plastic weave materials that are washable do work. I will argue that the reports I've seen on the "oil filters don't catch dirt . . . . ." never seem to be all that scientific and none seem to have any pictures or flow bench data that...- Napalm

Questions 2016 Explorer Sport
other than OMG I NEED MOAR CUP HOLDERS my reason for not getting it - our's is the new kid hauler - when she gets a bit older without the console she can craw herself to the back seats without having to move the the second row seats. second reason - the controls for rear AC are at the back...- Napalm

2016 Limited or Sport
so the sport motor is ecoboost and significantly more power and torque than the base 3.5 ti-vct V6 or the 2.3L 4 cylinder turbo ecoboost. because racewagon it is faster, it is quicker, thus it has more brakes too. the suspension is indeed stiffer so it can turn better at speed. Think tall...- Napalm

2012 steering issue
well I suck at searching then because I was finding info that showed a fluid pump and the like on the 2011, and 12. but not on the 13-16. I was wondering. TO the OP again I'd verify your tire pressures while checking out your tie rods.- Napalm

the bench as a whole slides too - IIRC. I'd swear when we looked at some earlier they did. but I think it's just harder to move. - doesn't recline though. either way get the buckets without the console. Unless you just need 7 seats - if so get another vehicle. and I know this is...- Napalm

2012 steering issue
I would wonder a bit about the front shocks/struts as well then. however 59000 Km isn't much travel. Is that right, for a 2012? for the rest of us yanks - that's 36,600 ish miles. with such little use - struts can fail early (the valves jam inside from lack of use) but as mentioned...- Napalm

stop going to those stores. I mean if the appearance of your wheels - the things that get dirty anway - is that important to you. then you should watch the people at the tire store like a hawk. some are well trained - most aren't. also more and more use the stick-on weights today -...- Napalm

how tall are you? I find the wifey - no issues me - about 50/50. I think it's 2 things. Her shorter legs mean she's standing closer to the car when she tries and perhaps 2, her foot doesn't go as far past the sensor as mine might. I find if I have the key in pocket (let's say left) and...- Napalm

just since I guess not everyone knows much about AL. yes there are a few things you can do. STEP 1 - never ever take your car though an automated car wash - most likely will scratch the wheels. Step 2 - check your wheel cleaner for safe to use on clear coats. - or even better don't use any. step3 - when you trade our your brakes don't...- Napalm

Explorer A-Pillar Rattle/Noise
our was easy to re-create. drive over 64 mph - noise, go up to 75 - louder and higher pitched. go past 80 on a test track in mexico - dims down and almost went way. and like I said before - some painters tape taping down the cowl panel to the windscreen - prevented the noise for a little while.- Napalm

our 2016 did this the day we took it home - turned around and brought it back that next day there is some issue with the cowl plastic pieces and their supports - that perahps upon installation they break in side. and around 65-73 mph you get tire noise of the right frequency to make the cowl...- Napalm

Second row legroom, 2015 vs 2016
I did try a few other rear-facing and convertible style car seats that friends of ours had. as it turns out though - either the newer child seats are just larger - or the bases hold them up higher - but they all take up significant room. now the moment we trade the seat around - it's a...- Napalm
