1:64 Explorer Project
Yeah, it's a die cast, by Maisto. Can find 'em on ebay if you're interested, and to correct myself, it's actually a '95 exploder. Hadn't ever seen your kit, would've been interesting to get that too- DemonMudder

1:64 Explorer Project
Oh there ya go! Funny I got the idea a few months back and am doing something similar! I bought this 1:24 scale explorer to make eventually look like mine, technically a '97 vs my '99 but we'll just roll with it. Just haven't take the time to work on it yet. But maybe soon since theres less on...- DemonMudder

Not a horrible idea, a little less possible trouble to deal with in the future. Either way is a decent choice, look around for both with good pricing and in good condition, pick from there. Good luck on the swap to either 4.0, keep us posted!- DemonMudder

And there we go, they're on, not perfectly. Smacked 'em once with the hatch accidentally, trying to get a rough estimate of where to set them. But they're fine, just a scuff- DemonMudder

And here we are, just waiting for the last layering of clear coat to dry. Should have them on by tomorrow afternoon! The tail light guards are sanded and in the works now. As well as another project officially beginning: a good ol' expedition roof rail swap, for an extra 11" of length, with four cross members. After that, a roof basket to cover the whole roof top, about 80" worth! The black hole from...- DemonMudder

Foglight rear defrost bulbs
Yeah, that was more complex. The rear wiper one had to soldered on, but it was easily done. https://carradiobulbs.com/store-4/1997-2001-mountaineer-explorer-rear-wiper-switch-led-bulb/ The 4wd one, well this setup doesn't actually work for our setup. I just took the original mount, pulled the...- DemonMudder

Solved 4.0 SOHC Ticking Hunt
Okay, just the guides then, probably have to have an auto shop do it, (hate, hate to do that). But I don't have the equipment, time, or anything to pull the engine. Saw from a few others threads on here, its estimated at more than $1500 to do??- DemonMudder

Solved 4.0 SOHC Ticking Hunt
Well, I'm glad to know at least. And to be sure, I should just need the guides? Or do I need the timing chain itself too? Normally I'd prefer to replace it too while I have it apart, but if there isn't a need, I'd rather be cost effective if I can- DemonMudder

Solved 4.0 SOHC Ticking Hunt
Yeah...: 222k miles, not sure if it's ever had the tensioners messed with right off hand, when I get back in a few hours I'll check around for the soot first. If it's the chain tensioners, I'll definitely look into the manual tensioner, does seem to be more recommended! Thank you for the input!- DemonMudder

Solved 4.0 SOHC Ticking Hunt
Okay, know this has probably been covered, done several searches already and just want y'alls opinion on this. Had an engine tick for several months now, always ticks until I'm up to a decent speed, or it's just not loud enough to hear at that point. It speeds up with the rpms, if I hit the gas...- DemonMudder

Help...02 Explorer Sport New owner
I'm still not 100% on the exact name of the trim piece, but rear hatch handle cover seems to work. Can find them on ebay, at at junkyard, and probably a few other places too, weirdly high priced. But heres one I found on ebay that doesn't look too bad...- DemonMudder

They're not on backwards, the ends are just bolted onto the boards so I just switched the ends they were on. Honestly the plan eventually is to get something more like rock sliders. May just take the current ends off and customize a flat cap so that they don't angle under or out from the truck...- DemonMudder

Well that's that, had to switch the ends so that they stick out rather than in thanks to the skirt being in the way, but honestly it's not too horrible looking. Definitely needs a paint job but there's a time for everything, and that is not right now lol- DemonMudder
