I know a '99 take 30 ounces of R134 and 9 of PAG 46. Should be written on the core support though.

@willzilla - Do you have any pictures of the way you attached the contour fans? I've got the exact same components ready to go but had held off since I don't have a plan for mounting the fans.

At six years old, I'd change the battery first and ask questions later. That's the extent of any reasonable lifespan for a battery IMO.

If both valves are closed you're good.

Good question - I'm really not sure on the 5R gasket. Seems odd that they wouldn't use a rubber/steel gasket. I didn't catch that it wasn't one until you said something.

I can't find an aftermarket reusable gasket for the 5R55E - you really might have to order that through Ford or search for a supplier online. I think the part number is F5TZ-7A191-A.

That's a 4R70W gasket in my link. If you've got a V6 it would be a different pan.

My aftermarket gasket doesn't leak at all. No sealant required either. That said - if you want an OE style 4R70W gasket, you can pick one up without going to the dealer. The ATP LG204 is designed the same way. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005R4J1QI

Do you not need to swap the engine crossmember for the 4wd conversion? On Rangers you do, and it's a giant mess to cut it out and install a new one.

The chirp does not occur with the serpentine belt removed, and was present last Fall when I first had the engine running on the old synchronizer. When I reassembled the top end a few weeks ago with the new synchronizer, it's still doing it. Pretty confident the problem is elsewhere.

I've been chasing a similar squeak on mine since the V8 swap. All new idler pulleys plus cam synchronizer and air conditioning compressor. I pulled the serpentine belt off and turned each pulley individually. The only one that feels a little odd is the A/C compressor as it free rotates around...

Do you find it hard to read at night? That's been my only complaint after swapping.

It's probably still related to the constant power for the gauge lights feeding across the relay onto the switched accessory wire to fire up the radio. I'll try a diode there so it can't flow that direction to see if it resolves everything. Thanks.

You can also skip the trip to the dealer for programming your keys. Forscan plus a decent Bluetooth OBD2 module and a laptop will get you going on that end for about $20-30.

Just a follow up to this. I'd ignored it for a long time because getting the truck itself running was a bigger priority. It's starting to move up the list now that the truck is on the road. One other thing I've noticed is that the power windows also work as long as the headlights are on. So...

Do you realize you're responding to yourself?

The indicator cable will help with what's shown on the dash, but isn't involved in the neutral/park start issue.

The ten speed is a variant of the F150 transmission, so it's well proven. You won't see a V8 in the Ranger. Officially there are no plans for any other engine options, but the 2.7 or maybe even the 3.5 might be possible. Honestly, there's no real need. The 2.3 eco already makes more power...

The starter won't back off if there's binding, so there's the potential to break things. Much safer to turn it slower by hand and feel for problems as you go.

Would you be interested in selling all the brake components? I've got an 8.8/31 from a Sport Trac to throw into the Ranger, but it's a 10" drum setup and I'm on the fence about setting it up with discs instead.

Did you keep the axle?

The differential does not need to be removed. There are several (3?) bolts that hold the axle to the frame. If you remove those bolts, the differential and entire center section of the axle can drop down several inches. At that point, you can access the bolts holding down the motor mounts...

With 37's, 5.13 sounds completely reasonable. That's only about 10% lower than running 33's and 4.10's like I've got now, and I'd gladly add 10% more gearing to that combo.

Ouch. Time to call around and find a good aluminum welder. I need to do the same with mine. Not cracked through yet, but definitely has a visible crack. Didn't appear to be causing a leak, but I'll get it fixed before it goes back on.

Subscribing because I didn't take a picture of the stock routing, and the way I've got them on the Ranger swap looks all sorts of goofy IMO.
