Solved If This Mountaineer Were A Horse I woulda Shot It Already
Charging system issues. Ok, living here in hell, or south Florida, batteries take a real beating from the heat. I put a new battery, from Advance, in the Mountie back in Sept of 16. Last Monday the battery discharge light started coming on. Since it wasn't supposed to rain I rode the...- MAS Tequila

Widow Lady Needs Some Expert Advice, Please?
Has it thrown any CEL's? Take it to the local parts house, unless you have a code reader, and they will pull the codes and tell you where to start. Send me an email (dragonchasers@yahoo.com) or a text or call @5612103399. I'll give you all of the advice based on my experience with my 2000...- MAS Tequila

Did you try hoping in from the wheel well. I don't know what engine you have, but on my 5.0 it's easier to get to the plugs from underneath.- MAS Tequila

A/C trouble...
I just changed my compressor, condenser, drier, o-tube, and lines. Everything but the evaporator. I was leaking refrigerant and when the clutch went.... It seamed like a good excuse. Now I have ice cold AC and no leaks, it held 27" of vacuum for over 30 minutes. Try just changing the...- MAS Tequila

The ac clutch is toast. They cost about $75 from Discount Auto, and aren't too terribly difficult to replace. Check out the archives for a write up or two.- MAS Tequila

2006+ style mirrors
Explorer or Mountaineer, I don't remember which. I don't think you can get them heated without the courtesy lamp, which has a larger space allowing a much larger LED bulb to be installed, resulting in some real light for a change. I had to remove some of the plastic from the back of the...- MAS Tequila

ac compressor troubleshoot
Overcharging is very easy to do, especially without a real set of manifold gauges, hell I overcharged mine yesterday with the gauges, if overcharged it won't get the signal to run. Also, please check the fuse under the hood. Don't ask how much time I lost trying to find the problem with mine...- MAS Tequila

Water pump bolts
Let me guess, you got them mixed up and now aren't sure which length bolt goes where. It's been too many years since I did one. Sorry, but you'll probably have to try the old trial and error way, just don't torque them down until you're fairly sure they're in the right places.- MAS Tequila

Bonehead Move Of The Week
I got it back on the road yesterday, Sunday, with extremely cold AC. I couldn't find the source of the front leak. It almost looks like at one time, an oil filter may not have sealed properly and allowed a stream of oil to spray up. There's no oil on anything but the lower radiator hose...- MAS Tequila

Bonehead Move Of The Week
I made the above referenced move. My AC compressor went south last week, so I ordered a new everything and started the tear down. Well since this is the first time pulling the radiator out of this vehicle, I just went with what I knew from past vehicles and removed the 4 bolts from the water...- MAS Tequila

Fix one thing. Get another problem...
Listen to our Hawaiian brother. About 2 weeks ago I swore my power steering pump was heading south. So I dusted off the spare pump...- MAS Tequila

winshield wipers
They get dirty over time. I've seen some that just needed cleaning and some that were just plain worn out. The bottom line is that it's making intermittent contact. I put them on mine. I changed where the stud mounts on the mirror, so that it fits the gen 2 door. I had to use the gen 2 wiring connector also. I don't have any pictures of what I did, but if you want I can take a couple of the mirrors installed to quiet the naysayers. The power mirror...- MAS Tequila

SCT X4 And A 2000 Mountaineer
I've been using 'boxed' SCT tunes from an X4 for an Explorer for over a year on my 2000 Mountaineer. Just recently I tried to put it back to the stock tune while looking for a problem, an O2 sensor was bad. All of the codes cleared except for the 0602 programming error code. SCT tuners and code p401
Turning off the EGR with the tuner doesn't stop it from functioning. It stops it from throwing the fault code. Oxygen sensor
Cut the wires and use the 7/8 or 22mm deep well socket to remove it. Removing is the hard part, unless you have a vehicle like mine that spent it's life in south Florida. Explorer 5.0 - what does EGR OFF do in the SCT Tuner
It just keeps the ECM from throwing a CEL if it's not there. It basically bypasses the circuit in the ECM that verifies that the EGR is functioning correctly. There is no gain using this function with the EGR still installed. It's the same with turning off the rear 2 02 sensors, it keeps it...- MAS Tequila

Best Mountaineer Mods?
As far as springs go, I replaced the complete leaf set-ups with new springs made for a Ranger. I bought the heaviest that I could find, and added the Add-A-Leaf and ended up with about 2" of lift. Thinking about lift
Don't take it personally. Keep asking questions, you'll get lots of answers. When you do go with the lift, let me know and I'll point you toward the rear sway bar end links that work correctly. They're a part made for the front of an F250. They're adjustable, and put the sway bar right where...- MAS Tequila
