Re-geared 8.8, do I need the tone ring
As thick as the new ring gear is I’m thinking it picked quite a bit of rotating mass. Lol. My previous gearing experiences were with Dana 60s and 80s. This explorer stuff is cute comparatively. Lol- fordpickupman

Re-geared 8.8, do I need the tone ring
Thank you for the quick reply. I was thinking that I didn’t need it, but couldn’t remember for sure and didn’t want to have to tear back into it after filling it with new gear oil. I’m excited to get this thing back together, going from 3.27s with 35s to 4.88s.- fordpickupman

Re-geared 8.8, do I need the tone ring
So I got the 4.88s and tru-track installed in the rearend of my ‘94 Explorer yesterday. I realized I had forgot to transfer the tone ring over from the original carrier. My explorer is an automatic. The ABS has been deleted. Do I need this tone ring for my automatic to shift correctly? I’ve...- fordpickupman

Has anyone ever?
I just finished putting 64" chevy springs under my '94 Ex while also doing a SOA. It rides better and feels less squirrelly in the corners. The bushings were gone in the factory leaves and I was running a shackle lift before.- fordpickupman

Awesome Build! I also have a CNC plasma table. It comes in really handy for building stuff and speeds up the entire process. You have come up with some cool stuff that I may have to copy on my Explorer build.- fordpickupman

Prerunner/Dual Purpose 94 Build
I meant $20 - 30k including the purchase price. The 4 seater CanAm is over $20k. Because of your build and ChaseTruck's bad influence I ended up buying a 1st gen Explorer for a beater/builder. I have less than $1k in it and it rallys pretty good. The best part is that the parts are cheap. I...- fordpickupman

Prerunner/Dual Purpose 94 Build
$7,000 seems like a bargain when you think about it. A SXS that would do what your explorer does would be $20-30k and would not be near as plush (though similar in size). After watching your video it appears that you have the suspension/steering dialed in pretty well. Its a sharp Explorer...- fordpickupman

How to: The Comprehensive Brown Wire Mod Thread
Good write up.... Good job on the write up. It was totally clear until I read the questions and input from the rest of the of the thread...... The switch diagram was good. The inside of the dash pics were very helpful. I'll be doing this to my '99 soon.- fordpickupman

Rearend and tranny 97' Explorer 5.0 2WD Help
Wo...... I am pretty sure I would tear into that unit......right away. That does not sound good to me. Is it the axle shaft itself that moves in and out? I'd investigate that before I drove it any more.- fordpickupman

3" lift completed
This is my wife's rig, I gotta keep it somewhat user friendly. It is her daily driver. I plan on rotating the spare through the set of tires in order gain some tire life. I will keep it inflated and make the hitch fit around the tire. The main purpose of the hitch is a recovery point anyhow...- fordpickupman

3" lift completed
The tire squeaks on the rack, I strapped it down to make sure it would stay there. I did not notice any wind noise, I think the goofy looking deflector probably prevents that. The plan is to put it in the factory spot, but I have to modify the hitch some for it to fit.- fordpickupman

only on the swaybar.......I haven't decided how I want to deal with that yet. I did trim about 3/4" off the lower corner of the bumper, but you don't really notice it. It drives like a pickup now, we like it alot better. No more saggy floaty feeling.- fordpickupman

shocks for 4" susp lift
What if the CV wasn't the limiting factor? I've been devising a plan to lower the differential around an inch or so. This way a guy could get more down travel w the torsion bars turned up and not bind the CVs. I don't know if the gains would be worth the effort, but I am curious. Back to...- fordpickupman

Sway Bars
It is my bride's vehicle, I informed her about it and she said she could deal with it. She is just excited about the additional snow clearance as we live out in the boonies and she has to "pioneer" through a couple of feet of snow some times. As far as the wheels, I will keep the stockers as...- fordpickupman

Sway Bars
So I just lifted my EX 3" and mounted up 32" tires on the factory aluminum rims. before full turn lock the sides of the tires rub on the front swaybar. I have been toying with the idea of removing the front swaybar and leaving the rear installed. The rear suspension flexes fair, but the front...- fordpickupman

shocks for 4" susp lift
cv spacing So is it possible to move the lower and or upper mount out of the way of the CV shaft to enable more shock options. You could probably gain some shock travel by doing that also. I have been toying with that option myself as the last shocks I put on it suck. The ol' LesSchwab MTN...- fordpickupman

Rearend and tranny 97' Explorer 5.0 2WD Help
Probably Rearend I had to rebuild the rear in mine at around 90,000 miles due to one of the carrier bearing giving up the ghost. It would let the ring gear carrier assembly move out of adjustment when coasting and sounded pretty weird. I only know what it was because the same thing had...- fordpickupman

3" lift completed
Well, I finally got all the pieces together. The poor ol' Ex was sagged out worse than I thought. I had the rear leaves re-arched and a second leaf added to support the ends of the main leaves to prevent another banana incident. Then I cranked up the torsion bars trying to be careful to stay...- fordpickupman

removing side steps???
ditch em.... I took the steps off of my wife's Explorer, it looks like I lifted it 3" by the additional clearance created. I also lifted it 2.5", it looks way better and now that the pontoons are gone, maybe we won't get stuck in the snow as easily. The only drawback is the holes that are...- fordpickupman

Small lift completed.....
I finally got around to lifting my wife's Explorer......I did the torsion twist to about 1.5" and had the rear springs re-arched and a full length add-a-leaf included in the pack. It looks a ton better. I may try to get a smidge more height out of the front after the rear settles in some. I...- fordpickupman

I want to give my Eddie a wider stance!
wider...... Easiest/safest way to go about this would be to get different offset wheels. That is still going to add a bunch of load on your wheel bearings and balljoints. The other problem you are going to run into will be a lack of clearance at the bumper and rear of the front fender when...- fordpickupman

Improved the intake for cheap
cone filter I put a ricer car cone filter on mine. I drilled and tapped holes in the steel base for the MAF to bolt to. I then built an air box out of aluminum that also holds the unit from bouncing around. I got the filter for free, so I'm only in it for the 8 rivets I used to attach the...- fordpickupman
