how much can the awd drivetrain handle?
section525; did you need to get the chip to control the idle? i had issues with my e-303 when it was in my mustang and had to get a chip. also, did you need to change the torque converter to accomodate the cam? Anything in particular I need to keep an eye on when looking for a 5.0 explorer...- josh_ruppert

how much can the awd drivetrain handle?
I am considering a 5.0 AWD sometime before spring. I have a set of stage 2 ported gt-40p heads along with an e-303 cam that I used in my 94 mustang. I want to put these on and of course I will need to change my injecters, mass air and intake. How strong is the drivetrain? I dont plan on...- josh_ruppert

Modifying AWD to be switchable on/off??
I was about to write a reply regarding the first suggestion about the switch and I was about to say that it has no switch. Anyway, the reason I ask is because I plan to do some engine mods to this 5.0 when I purchase it. I have a 94 Mustang and have done engine mods to it over the past 10 yrs...- josh_ruppert

Modifying AWD to be switchable on/off??
This may sound like a crazy question but was just curious. Is it possible to modify the set up so you can have a switch to turn on the AWD when wanted? I am referring to the 96 and on Explorer 5.0's. The reason I ask is that I am looking into purchasing an AWD 5.0 but was curious if this can...- josh_ruppert

The door locks on my 92 Explorer 4dr are froze up. I have went to the local salvage yards but no one has any. I stopped in at the ford dealer and they want $130 for the locks and ignition. air silencer
Just wondered what year Explorer this applies to.. I have a '92 Explorer 4.0 and I wanted to yank that box out somehow rather and make my own cold air kit. I have already taken the silencer out of my Mustang and it seemed to help.- josh_ruppert

4X4 doesnt disengage
Hey guys.. been a while since I commented on this topic. I dont have the problem any more. One day I decided to get new tires but on for winter. After that, it disengaged just fine. Seems as if maybe there was a difference in tire height. At least enough to cause it to bind. I would have...- josh_ruppert

removing air box
No, what I think he means is that if he installs a cold air kit, should he still leave the box over it to keep excess water from being sucked into the intake. I dont have that answer for you. I have a mustang in which I put an aftermarket mass air on it and it was designed with an open k&n...- josh_ruppert

4X4 doesnt disengage
Hehe... I have never heard that. I have owned my explorer for 4 years and have never had to drive in reverse to disengage it from 4 wheel drive. In fact, you should be able to do it at anytime going down the road at any speed. I have the manual lock outs.- josh_ruppert

Are you referring to the transfer case fluid? If so, that is the first thing I did. It still does it.- josh_ruppert

4X4 doesnt disengage
I have a '92 Explorer 4x4 with manual lock outs. I am having a problem with it wanting to disengage from 4 wheel drive. Pushing the botton to turn off wont work. I have to hit the brake quick and it disengages. Any ideas as to why and what I need to do to fix it? Thanks- josh_ruppert
