Strange electrical gremlin - check charging system

Well, sure enough it was a bad alternator. Fixed it, and took the opportunity to replace the belt.

Strange electrical gremlin - check charging system

It's sort of looking like it might be the alternator. Engine off, 12.4 volts at the battery. Engine on, 14.0 volts at the battery with no accessories on. Engine on, 11.1 volts at the battery with lights and heater on. Maybe the increased demand on the coil at high RPM is just over taxing it...

Strange electrical gremlin - check charging system

OK, so when I accelerate briskly, the check charging system warning is coming on in the information center, and the red battery lamp illuminates. It stops as soon as I reduce engine speed, and the charge gauge does not indicate a drop in voltage. Any thoughts?

    Headlight Upgrade

I think the folks over at suvlights.com have a pretty good writeup. I personally have good experience with the Silverstar Ultra, but apparently there is better around. The biggest thing I have discovered about headlights is - fix the voltage drop at the light housing.

    Well, hi.

I traded in my Trailblazer for an Explorer. New to Fords - but this one was a really good deal. I got an 05 XLT that had to be literally garaged and babied it's entire life. Owned by a lawyer, who I knew personally. Aftermarket alarm and nav installed. I'm really enjoying it, it's a...
