I am looking at possibly purchasing a 2nd gen 4 door. I currently have a 2001 Sport with a bunch of roof accessories. Can the Sport/Sport Trac roof rails be moved over to a 2nd gen?

So this entire assembly is removed? Does the keeper under the separator plate stay in? I appreciate the responses too!

How much lower are the trans temps after this? Are there any ill affects? The entire reason I did a vb swap was for the thermal bypass valve that comes in a superior shift kit. I still have high temps after installing it.

Thanks for the replies, thankfully I have another vehicle to drive while I figured this out. At night with a flashlight is the only time I'm able to read the dipstick accurately, as funny as that sounds. But I finally found the correct level.

4wd. It does have the auxiliary trans cooler too. It baffles me because it was dry at operating temp.

Got the fairing done today...what a pain in the a$$ that was to do! But i am very happy with it.

Finally got the tent on the roof and i cant wait to use it! We all climbed in it and moved around a little and the stock rack held up with no issues (roughly 620lbs on the roof at that point)! Now all i need to do is fabricate a fairing.

Thank you shucker! I didn't realize i could use a disconnect tool like the ones for fuel filters on this connection :rolleyes: It came right out. We all ask dumb questions from time to time...right? lol

The tent showed up a few weeks ago and needless to say, its a big one!! Also below is my crossbar setup. I'll be fabricating a wind fairing as well, so once thats complete i will post the setup. Be prepared though, its going to take up 90% of the roof! Lol

I think we're confusing terminology (maybe we aren't Lol) But here's a photo of my current setup with proposed additional crossbars. The xbars pictured are Surco Roof Rider rails and the clamps are Surco as well, the new ones would be identical to the photo. I'd like to see pictures of your RTT...

I assume others on here have upgraded their entire 2nd gen rack system? Do you have links to their setup? I'll do some searching too.

See the above reply for my plans on crossbars. The tent weighs 148lbs and all smaller ones weigh 100-120. $1400+ is a tough pill to swallow! Lol

I've searched the forum and seems like 150-200lbs is the roof rack limit for a static load. As for the roof, I'm not sure. I planned on having 4 crossbars on the stock roof rails and fabricating a fairing to alleviate wind stress on the entire setup. I've had about 100lbs on the stock rails...

In 2019 alone I may be using it over 30 times. For the size of the tent, it'd be impossible to find one under $1k. Even tents that are 72" wide go for $1400+.

Got the Explorer back today. The starter was no good when installed on the vehicle. But when it was bench tested it was ok.

I dropped it off at a dealership for them to track it down. We'll see what they say.

I did the adjustment per a haynes manual and all gears engage perfectly. The neutral line on the switch lines up exact when vehicle is in neutral as well.

Thanks for the info. I figured out that the trans being bolted to the block grounds the trans. For some reason i was thinking it had a separate strap as well.

That's good info and advice. I'll try and clean the grounds up and an extra ground won't hurt either. Thank you!

Does anyone have an explanation or diagram to where the grounding points are on a 5r55e? I just want to clean them up. Thanks.
