    Cat Converter Question

1996 Explorer XLT 4x4 4.0 auto. Recently I took the Explorer to a chain repair store due to a hole in the exhaust right between the cats. In the repair they replaced the two cats with one high flow unit since they said they were bad. Sine then I have gotten two codes: P0133 - Oxygen Sensor...

    Yet another tire suggestion thread...

Hey Joe. I got about 25k out of the Dunlops. I used to work with a guy that whose previous job was with Dunlop. When I first put the Radial Rovers on the Ex I told him I got them. His response: "Great tire. You'll love them the short time that you have them." He wasn't kidding. I did...

    Yet another tire suggestion thread...

Well, I went with the Revo's based on the tirerack.com reviews and the raves here on the boards. So far I am happy with them. Good rain traction (got them on just in time for a downpour) and they are quiet enough on the highway. There's more wind noice than tire noise. I'll be heading up to...

Thanks for the suggestion Alec. You're referring to the BFG AT KO? That's the one I was looking at. Any thoughts on the Bridgestone AT Revo? It got great reviews on Tirerack.

    Yet another tire suggestion thread...

Time to replace the Dunlop Radial Rovers on the '96 XLT 4x4. The Ex is all stock and is the wifes daily driver. The Dunlops were a good tire but wore out way too fast. I would like a tire for her that is fairly quiet, comfortable and good in the rain. The size will remain the stock...

4R55E Valve Body Service Kit Info??

The tranny (4R55E) in my '96 XLT 4.0 ohv 4x4 is starting to slip just a little (100k miles). A Ford tranny tech said it was doing pretty good but maybe a bit soft on the shifts. I brought it to him due to a slip around 3000-3500 rpm in second gear at WOT. Anyway, after some searching here I...

    Downstream O2 sensor fault??

If you have the 4.0 then you just have the three sensors. Upstream Bank 1 and Bank 2 and Downstream Bank 1. If you changed the downstream sensor and it did not cure it then it could also be the cat (but you say emissions is fine and no loss of power) or the upstream sensor. Basically all...

    Random RPM drop

STANN - Did they ever determine the cause of your tranny failure? I am having the exact same symptons with the rpm's dropping in second gear at 3500. Curious if they were able to tell you the cause of the failure and if the rpm drop was related to the failure. Thanks! Sean.

Steering rack leak. Rebuild or replace?

Thanks for the reply Jot! I'm going to be picking up some stop-leak on the way home tonight and see how that does. Couldn't hurt I guess. If it takes a complete dump then I'll just pick up a new unit though it sounds like I would not be enjoying the R&R! Guess it couldn't be tougher than...

Steering rack leak. Rebuild or replace?

I noticed tonight that the steering rack on my wife's '96 X is leaking. It's an XLT 4x4 with 86k miles. The boot on the driver's side is coated with fluid and so is the lower control arm. It does not appear to be a bad leak. The fluid in the pump was just a hair low and there was no...
