You could also do cams with the tune, CAI, and exhaust.

Also with the 4.6 being 97, you will have to tear it apart an put in a new ring gear and get new sensors, because the new ECU that you will have to buy will not read the old sensors. The list of things that do not work are ridiculous. You are going to spend at least $2,000. Save the money, time...

I would definitely stick with a 4.0 SOHC like you have. Stay away from a V-8 swap. If you want a V8, sell the truck for what you can and buy one. More trouble than it is worth to do the swap.

How big of tires? My truck runs on 265/75R16's stock. There is also not any company that makes a kit for the 3rd gen Explorer. One would have to be custom made.

Just be sure to check and see if you have a Romeo or Windsor block. The bolt patterns are different.
