    Odd Overdrive shift issues

Hi guys, I have sort of an odd problem and was thinking maybe you could help. I have a 96 5.0 Explorer. Never had any major issues with it until now. A few months ago it started shaking when it would try to shift out of overdrive. For example if I was coasting at 45 and it was in OD and I pushed...

    Maximizing Fuel Mileage

A lot of his mods can apply to the 5.0, but you need to have the time and effort to install the things he used and the money to do it initially. Very few have the patience to do what he did.

3M Headlight Restoration Kit: STAY AWAY

Well when I used it I remember reading in the instructions not to use the kit on any lenses that were not very yellow or really cloudy, so maybe your UV layer just was not worn in enough, I have read about this happening before on newer headlights that weren't damaged enough.

    Early 4L VS Later 4L VS 5L

The 4L sohc has some timing chain issues that can usually be identified by a rattling sound on a cold startup, but are othewise decent engines. The ohv 4L (earlier model 95-97) and the 5L are considered to be almost "bulletproof" by enthusiasts and mechanics alike. Gas mileage is barely a...

    2000 Explorer blower issue

It could be that your blower motor resistor has died, pretty common failure among just about any car out there, do you have the automatic climate controls or the manual knobs?

    No Lights!!!!

Since you have the eddie bauer im guessing you have a message center? if you do, there is a device called a lamp out module that will tell the message center if any lights are out. over time usually a connection comes loose in the module and turns the lights off. the module should be located...

Tell me how screwed I am...

I just had a nearly identical problem with my 96 5.0. Unfortunately the housing isn't threaded so unless some really strong gasket sealant was used last time it was changed it most likely will start to leak. What I did was spray it with liquid wrench multiples times throughout the day, gave it a...

Just got a Magnaflow dual 2.5" in/single 2.5" out with a Magnaflow tip installed a couple weeks ago. Provides great sound, not loud at idle but when you get on it she sounds mean.

Are the high beams on HID's disabled because of the alternator?

Your least expensive option is to install a set of better stock halogen bulbs. Bulbs such as the Sylvania Silverstars will produce a blue effect, somewhat simulating HID lighting, although they do tend to burn out rather quickly. Another option I used is the GE nighthawk platinums. They offer a...

Are the high beams on HID's disabled because of the alternator?

That statement itself is untrue. The 9007 bulb is a dual filament bulb, the single bulb has both a 55w and 65w filament, one activated for lows the other for highs. Since HIDs do not contain this filament, you cannot use one bulb for both high and low unless you get a kit that comes with a...

Aftermarket Keyless Entry, Alarm Still Sounds Sometimes

I did actually try this and it did not have any effect. The alarm will still go off when the key fob is used. I'm more concerned with the random unlock issue since I park in a not so good area when I'm at school.

Aftermarket Keyless Entry, Alarm Still Sounds Sometimes

So I have some what of an odd problem, I was looking through posts about the RAP module but haven't seen this particular issue. So my 1996 Explorer has been in my family for about 4 years and it came with an aftermarket remote starter. Ever since we got it, when using the remote to unlock the...

    Hey guys

Hey everyone, joined the site a few months ago and finally getting around to posting. I've got a '97 XLT 4.0 OHV with 162k on the odometer, got her back in 2009 with 145k when a Suburban wrecked my s10 Blazer. I've done a few very light mods including a cluster from a sport trac, amsoil air...
