    Harmonic Balancer replacement

I have been driving it, since the noise will stop while driving. Glad to hear I was lucky! When inserting the new HB, do I need to grease/oil any parts before inserting? And it would seem that I also need to order a new bolt for the replacement as well.

How to: 4.0 Harmonic Balancer - know when it's going bad & how to fix

I have replaced the alternator, idler pulley and tensioner pulley in an effort to stop the ridiculous chirp i am hearing on my '04 X. I have checked the crank pulley for any wobble or looseness by hand and nothing moves. When I pulled the belt off, it had a slight stickiness to the crank...

    Harmonic Balancer replacement

OK, So learning as I go here. Picked up a new HB, surprised when I opened it up and it did not have the outer pulley part where the belt actually rides. So now I am guessing that is the crank pulley. Engine is chirping- usually only when cold, and when heater or a/c fan is blowing when...

    Harmonic Balancer replacement

I believe my balancer needs to be replaced as well. (2004) Already replaced the two pulleys and alternator. Trying to decide if I can do the job myself and save some bucks, or if I need to take it to a mechanic with special tools and knowledge. If I must find TDC in piston 1 by removing the...

Could it be the alternator? Harmonic balancer?

Thanks for the input. The culprit ended up being the tensioner pulley.

    No Heat

The blend door has the actuator on one side and on the other side (glove box side) it has a lever that will depress a button for mac AC as the blend door turns. I can see that lever moving as the blend door moves. So I believe that the blend door is moving according to the temperature control...

    No Heat

Thank you for the reply. I watched the control valve move back and forth, and felt the lines before and after to see if there was a difference in temperature. I could feel both lines heating up after it was opened. Although one may not have been quite as hot as the other. Would that...

    No Heat

2004 explorer 4.0 sohc I have replaced the blend door and actuator. Then fabricated a piece to fix the defrost door. Now I have no heat in the front. Checked the vacuum in the engine compartment that allows hot water to flow in through the firewall, and it appears to work fine. Looks like...

Could it be the alternator? Harmonic balancer?

Buckwill- Are you saying that it is easy/possible to rebuild the bearings in the alternator?

Could it be the alternator? Harmonic balancer?

The chirp is coming from the alternator side of the engine. Does not make it when the belt is removed. No difference when a/c is on or off. But still no heat either.

Could it be the alternator? Harmonic balancer?

Temperature is warmer now and noise did not chirp as easily as this morning. But still did after applying gas. Removed belt and no more chirping. Turning the alternator by hand I could hear a small squeak. Looking at the harmonic balancer, it has a few small chunks missing from the outside...

Could it be the alternator? Harmonic balancer?

I will check on engine type. It is a 4.0 v6 flex fuel. But it is there regardless if a/c is on or off. I did try turning the air on low in the back and low in front as well. The noise was less with lower air flow. Turning blower on high in the back increased the noise.

Could it be the alternator? Harmonic balancer?

I started it this morning, let it squeal for a while, turned of engine and felt all pulleys for heat, and all were cool to the touch.

Could it be the alternator? Harmonic balancer?

The noise is always there when I start the car in the morning. It was staying loud permanently, but I think I always left the fan blowing to get warm air in the back. Now after driving for a bit, if the air is turned off, the squeal will stop. Once it stops I can turn the air back on and no...

Could it be the alternator? Harmonic balancer?

I went through and replaced the blend door and actuator. Also fixed the defrost door vacuum lever. Now the engine makes a terrible chirping sound. The belt is fairly new (about 1 year old). Tried some belt dressing but made no difference. The chirping sound is there when the car is cold. But...

    Please help end the noise!

No, I am not sure they are related. In listening more, it sounds like it might be coming from the belt area, but applied belt dressing and nothing changed. Possibly a bearing going bad on one of the pulleys? The squeal will stop after turning the air flow switch to off from inside the cabin.

How to: Replace Front Blend Door Actuator in 3rd Gen Ex.

I have finished replacing the blend door and actuator motor, but still have no heat. Any ideas on what to do next? I also now have an awful screeching noise coming from the air box, which I did not have previously. Could the problems be related?

    Please help end the noise!

2004 Explorer After replacing the blend door and motor, I was surprised to hear an awful noise coming from the engine after starting . There is a high pitched chirping coming from the air box, right over the engine. It sounds similar to an alternator belt slipping, but this does not...

    Blend door or vacuum line?

Thank you for this!! I have a couple of questions to help me understand your process and do it right the first time: 1. If super gluing the white to the black piece, white tap a hole for the blue screw? 2. What did you cut the v in the bottom piece of the white part?
