    Houston dealership service recommendation ?

Like everyone, Houston has a ton of dealers so it depends where you are most of the time. Like everyone, I have heard of no awesome dealers, just a numbe of good dealers and service departments. My Ex came from Joe Myers and I have been back a couple times on small issues. No complaints, went...

    new explorer

Had my explorer now for about 7 months with the same tires. They do have some road noise to them, but not worse than any Michilens I have had over the past 15 years. I attribute the sound to that I do hear from the explorer being so very quite inside. Suspect if you are hearing too much noise...

    Switching to Synthetic Motor Oil

Per the discussion, I would recommend full synthetic and not a blend. Full synthetic contains no organics, where blends are a mixture. Pennzoil Ultra or Platinum, Mobile One, Castrol Synthetic are very good and will ensure your engine lasts.

    Switching to Synthetic Motor Oil

I have been running synthetic oil for about 12 years now on an Acura, Honda and now my Ex. The Acura has 175,000 miles, the Honda about 80,000 without an engine issue on either. Engineers tell me that today's synthetic oils hold up to both extreme cold and heat, the breakdown is very slow...

Ford Explorer Cross Bars / Roof Rack

When I have mine installed, I have found them to be very tight and secure, once the cross bars were on the rack. I remove mine when not in use (just for looks), but mounted a soft cargo carrier for a 3,000 mile trip in early summer. I too would wonder if it is your rack and might have a...

    Explorer Sales Figures

Seems lots of people are likely the new Ford Explorer... In September, Ford Explorer sales totaled 11,336 units, up 204% from last year. For the first nine months of 2011, Explorer sales are up 126% to 96,957. Ford, the country's leading maker of utility vehicles, said total utility...

Rear Bucket Seats? Pros & Cons

Probably the one option that I would change on my Explorer if I had to do it again. We chose the bench seat, giving us the extra seat and not disappointed with the ride in the second row. But as mentioned above, the bucket seats adjust forward and backward, in addition, the bucket seats have a...

Build quality, construction and reliability of new Explorer

I too have been a Honda/Acura guy for 11+ years as I felt value for the dollar wasn't there in the American autos. A ton of research for a crossover/SUV had me looking at the Ex on a very short list this year. As you have/will read on the forum, MFT is awesome but still not mature and for a...

    Blackberry Bold 9900

I have a 9800 from ATT. It works well with MFT, but 2 items. MFT won't read text message (not supported by my bb at least) and about 20% of the time when I leave the truck, the phone plays random music. The fix I found for that is to turn off BT audio on the phone.

SYNC not downloading directions...just screeches repeatedly

I have had the same experience, but get it to work on the 2nd attempt. You might try Sync tools and see if those features are working for you. Personally my house sits in an area with poor cell coverage, so you could also move the truck to differnt location as a simple test. I suspect my...

    Forum and Ipad2

There is a downloadable app that handles this and what appeared many other forums (It contained some adult material, so I cancelled it). After going throught the process once, I was then able to actually see these web pages normally.

Ford Explorer Cross Bars / Roof Rack

I did that in my post. Now that only removes the crossbars, which are installed by the dealer or owner. The rails on the Explorer are built into the truck and aren't designed to be removed. Suspect you will need to go to a body shop and have some work done if you are wanting to remove the...

    Best OEM parts source?

Suspect you are looking for Explorer acc.? I have found Partscheap.com to be pretty good pricing and reliable. I suspect we have 5+ that forum members have good luck with.

Should I Pull The Pin; Pilot or Explorer?

Interesting, I have owned now 4 first year model cars (orginal caravan, neon, Acura TL and now the Explorer) and I would say the Explorer has the highest initial quality of any of them. I will always remember white mist coming out of the A/C in the acura and being told "just shut off the A/C...

    adaptive cruise control option

Yes the Explorer cruise control will operate in normal mode as well as adaptive. If I take over gas pedal control (say to accelerate for passing), the adaptive cruise will flash on the screen and take back over pretty gently when I release control. I would recommend a full out road test as your...

    adaptive cruise control option

The EX has 3 or 4 settings (gap) for adaptive cruise so it is very intelligent. Between this feature and parallel parking, the truck is sometimes scary smart.

    Custom Build Options?

Welcome to the forum! The short answer is no. Most features are part of packages and can't be purchased seperately. A few can be added, first select the Limited, then the package you want. The web site will then go through each section and some options (tow as an example) can be added.

    Safety feature questions

Ok it is possible one of our new members doesn't have an EX just yet, so I will attempt to answer: 1) YES, Cross traffic is used when backing out and sees movement from either side behind you. The left screen indicates where the movement is indicated. 2) Park Assist indicates its on or off...

Should I Pull The Pin; Pilot or Explorer?

I've owned Hondas and Acuras for about 12 years; Pilot and MDX was one of my short list trucks when I did my search in spring this year. I think others have answered your most of your detail questions, so I won't go into the same level of details. Both trucks have good reputations, and are...

    Taking delivery

All the information in the forum didn't exist when I picked up my Explorer about 4 months ago. Having said that I test drove it, looked over the truck and didn't sign anything until I was happy.

OEM Hankook Tires, Like or Dislike

I've had my EX limited now for about 4 months with the Hankooks on it. My tires have only been in hot weather (very hot) but have worked very well with no wear issues or strange handling of the truck. In a perfect world, I wish they were American tires, and unclear why Ford picked Hankooks vs...

    Floor mat for 3rd row

I have the black 3rd row weathertech in my Explorer and it works very well and looks nice. If I had not ordered Ford's all weather mats, I would likely buy the entire set

New car shopping - just discovered the Explorer

I was very much the same place you are at in late spring. Looking for a crossover in the $40-$45K range that would be very safe, high quality and easy to drive. After looking at 10+ European and Japanese crossovers, I made a decision to look at Ford because they didn't take my bailout money to...

Ford Explorer Cross Bars / Roof Rack

Removing the cross bars is at most 15 minutes task the first time. 2 thumb screws hold each cross bar in place, remove those and stand each bar up, then lift each cross bar by lifting straight up. All that will remain now is the plastic and metal pieces. they will slide (on either side) to...

What are these connectors under the 2nd row seats?

I think it is wiring harness for the bucket seats on the Limited if I am not mistaken
