    Warrior Shackle Concern

Like Brian, I could not bring myself to install the 1/2" bolts. I drilled the shackles out and installed 14mm bolts that were of proper length to fit the nut. I think this is probably the way they should have been made to begin with.

    Locking Lug Nuts

I've seen two basic types of locking lug nuts, the type that uses a standard key in the end and the type that uses a special adapter on your lug wrench. Does anyone have any experience / recommendations as to which type or brand to get? Thanks,

    Spark plugs

I did both the plugs and wires on my rig at about 30k. With the plugs alone, I didn't really notice any performance change. However, when I installed the Jacobs wires ( I could not find splitfire for a '98 SOHC ) I noticed an immediate increase in throttle response. This may be due to the...

1 in lift ion rear only

Here is their web address. I had my local 4x4 shop order them and got them next day. About $38 or so if memory serves. However, they only list a shackle for '96 and up Explorer. Alan http://www.warriorproducts.com/ [Edited by Nordic-Al on 07-02-2000 at 01:20 AM]

Do bigger tires make the O/D light blink?

The '91-'99 Chilton’s manual shows a pen & ink rendering of a "typical VSS". The picture shows a gear on the end. However, in the description of the VSS it says, "The vehicle speed sensor is a magnetic pick-up that sends a signal to the Powertrain Control Module. The sensor measures the...

Do I Have Too Much Aluminum In My SOHC?

OK, I took AgExplorer's advice and called the lab and asked them to retest the viscosity. They did it immediately and called me back. Drum roll please... The correct viscosity number is 11.4 @100 deg. C which is equal to SAE 36. Right where Amsoil 30W should be. I guess I will let the next...

Do I Have Too Much Aluminum In My SOHC?

AgExplorer, Thank-you. Your enthusiasm is reassuring. I wasn’t sure what levels some of the numbers should be. A good friend (and ardent Amsoil user) convinced me to run Amsoil when the vehicle was new. I have run Amsoil since the 1,000 mile mark. Normally I change my oil at around...

Do I Have Too Much Aluminum In My SOHC?

AgExplorer, First let me note that I believe I am using a different lab than yourself and Gerald. My oil was tested by “Oil Analysis Lab Inc.” out of Spokane. The test kits were purchased from my local Amsoil Distributor. The results breakdown as follows: Physical Data; Viscosity @ 100...

Do I Have Too Much Aluminum In My SOHC?

Hi Ray, No, no 4 wheeling during this period. I would estimate about 40% freeway at 65-70mph, 40% freeway 50-60mph and the rest around town. With perhaps the occasional spurt into the 80's. Alan

Do I Have Too Much Aluminum In My SOHC?

Gerald, Following your oil post got me curious about my oil, so when I changed my Amsoil 5w/30 last Friday, at 39,425 miles (7,000 miles on the oil), I sent it in for testing. My aluminum was 8 parts per million, but my iron was 31 ppm. Both were flagged as "normal-no action required". As...

    Engine Oil

At about 105,000 miles the my Subaru Legacy started to have a problem with a valve sticking. I had used dino oil and changed it every 3-5k along with a filter. I did a engine flush ( after 8 minutes with the flush the valves were no longer sticking ) and switched to Amsoil 15w-40 synthetic...

    High wattage replacement bulbs

Thank you for your input gentlemen. I was hoping to hear from individuals with first hand experience using these bulbs in plastic fixtures. Sounds like it should not be a problem. With regards to the concerns raised about blinding other drivers, I too share this concern, and I don't like being...

    High wattage replacement bulbs

Hi folks, I have a '98 XLT with 9007 series headlight bulbs, ( 55w low / 65w high beam ) and the stock plastic lens cover (and I suspect plastic reflector). Does anyone know if the plastic will withstand the increased heat output from the sustained use of higher wattage bulbs? such as...

    Which Spark Plug?

I installed the platinum +4's last weekend and the Jacobs wires today. My "seat of the pants" impressions thus far; at 40k my stock plugs were perfect and did not need to be changed. The new plugs did seem to make the idle and acceleration feel a little smoother but that’s it, not worth the...
