    hum after installing amp

The most common cause of engine noise (alternator whine) through the amp is improper grounding. Make sure the amp's ground wire is securely attached directly to the chassis. Also, the grounding point should be to bare metal, free of paint, undercoating, etc. For more troubleshooting tips...

need help on head unit install

You need a wire harness adapter specific for your vehicle. This will go between the head unit and the factory harness. These are widely available. Heck, even Wal-Mart sells them. http://www.bcae1.com/headunit.htm

Is there a cheaper version of dynamat

You would have to use a dozen or so layers just to have any effect and doing so would be extremely tedious and laborious. Even then, the end result would very likely not have anywhere near the same vibration damping properties as Dynamat and the like.

    where to buy alarm battery?

Actually, the DEI 515R battery backup siren can work with any alarm system. I have one in my Python system. You wire it up just like any regular siren except that you have to run a +12V and ground which keeps the internal battery charged. They are not that expensive ($30) and can add an...

    where to buy alarm battery?

Google search for "DEI 520T" There are alot of online retailers that sell them for around $30-40. While you are at it, you may also want to get a siren (DEI 515R) with a built-in battery backup. Here is a good thread offering advice on alarms and car security in general...

6x8/5x7 Speakers. Best of the Best.

I would definately add the JL Audio XR comps to your list. I have a set and am extremely happy with their sound. The sound is well balanced and detailed. The tweeter has an amazing level of detail and "airiness." For instance, cymbal crashes sound very real and you can hear its "decay" very...

    new system needed

Running external amps will give you the best sound quality and dynamics. However, the V-Drive amp built into the 9835 puts out a relatively good amount of power (26W/ch). This rating is CEA-2006 compliant so its "real." If you always listen to your music at low to moderate sound levels, then...

    hows this alarm sound?

This statement is false. Most car alarms are more than just audible/visual deterrents. They almost always include some sort of device to prevent, or at least slow down, a thief from quickly starting the vehicle. These devices include starter and/or fuel pump cut off relays. Even though newer...

    hows this alarm sound?

That eBay alarm seems to be a cheap no name brand (CV9?). Therefore, it's reliability and functionality would be questionable. A safe bet would be to go with an auto security system made by DEI (e.g. Viper, Python, Clifford, Hornet, Avital). Assuming you are comparing alarm systems from a...

what length rcas should I get?

Agree. I personally would be hesistant to rely on anyone's estimation or recollection on the length of wire needed. You could also wind up a little short due to variations in the placement of the components.

    in dash security?

Your DVD headunit/monitor likely has a threaded bolt hole on the backside. Thread an eye bolt into that hole and loop a small steel cable through it. Secure the loop with an aluminum ferrule. Make another loop at the other end of the cable using another ferrule. Then wrap this end of the cable...

Audio Noob Needs Help with Speaker Choice

JL Audio makes a very good 5x7 comp set... Dead Link Removed They retail for over $400 but can be purchased on eBay (sans factory warranty) for around $200-250. I have their 5.25" XR525 CSi comp set and am very pleased with the way they sound. The sound is very detailed without being too...

99 dollar 800W Amp w/2 10 inch subs at pep boys

As an FYI, your $99 amp is not putting out anywhere near 800W of power. This can be inferred from its very high power to cost ratio. For more info on why this is so, read these articles... http://www.caraudiohelp.com/newsletter/amplifier_power_ratings.htm...

The best intall kit in my experience is one made by American International, which I am currently using. It is the most solid, well made, best fitting kit I've used so far (made in USA!). Do I have a ground loop problem?

Zip ties? Yikes! This is the first time I've heard anyone using them to secure their grounds. You should always use a screw or bolt to insure that the ground connection is tight and secure. I trust that you are using a ring terminal on the end of the ground wire as well? The amp maybe no...
