    Growling in the front

I went to get an alignment done a few months ago and they said it was a bunch of bushing and other stuff that went bad and that an alignment wouldn't help and wanted to charge me $500 to do it. Frankly I can think of much better things to buy with that kind of money like a new PS pump, electric...

    Growling in the front

They didn't mention anything about it and it doesn't feel warped when I hit the brakes. Maybe I just got lucky this time.

    Growling in the front

So I just had the shop down the street do it and I'm glad I did. What happened is the old bearings had no grease in them and the ball bearing fell out as soon as they removed the axle, with the lack of lubrication there was massive overheating and they had welded themselves to the axle. They had...

    Growling in the front

Automatic hubs. I was thinking of switching them over to manual due to all the problems I hear about them but can't really afford that right now.

    Growling in the front

They said $300, I've never done wheel bearings before but rent a couple tools from Advance and buy some new bearing and, with the help of Google, I should be able to do them on my next day off.

    Growling in the front

I just took it down to the local shop and asked them what may be wrong so they jacked up the problem side and we all knew immediately what it was. The wheel bearings went bad. My question is why would they go out that fast (in a period of 2 weeks), what caused it and what was that about on Saturday?

    Growling in the front

1992 Explorer XLT 4WD. This started about 2 weeks ago but has gotten much worse since. It started as what sounded like a squeaky belt but the sound varied upon speed and not RPM, while driving if you put the car in neutral and turned the engine off it still continued. On Thursday the...

    MPGuino?

Of course I go to buy one and they're out and apparently been out for about a month. I hope that they haven't stopped making them and that demand is just too high for them to keep up because it's a nifty device. If anyone finds any website selling them and are in stock can you let me know?

    MPGuino?

I'm not sure if any of you have heard of it but it's an open source MPG meter that uses an arduino. It's most useful to pre-1996 vehicles that don't have an ODB-II connection. Looking on the wiki it seems fairly easy to install except I don't know where to find the VSS signal on my 92 XLT...

    Greetings

Nevermind, I found a thread that details it very well. That's gonna be my project this Saturday, now to find someplace that will take all my used oil and trans fluid. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152869

    Greetings

Well I finally changed the fluid and added some Lucas transmission fix. The old stuff actually wasn't as bad as it looked on the dipstick, I'm no expert on transmission fluid but the old stuff may have had about 50k on it. For my first transmission job I think I did a decent job, looked like I...

    Greetings

Agreed. I'm still saving up enough money to do it (only $25 but I'm broke) so I'm barely driving it just to keep it from getting worse. Something I was thinking of adding was some Slick transmission treatment when I change out the fluid because it's supposed to be "gold in a bottle." Have you...

    Greetings

I've talked to a few more people and they all say the same so what I'll likely end up doing is just dropping the pan, change the filter and put some Maxlife 75,000 mile fluid in it, it would be cheaper then an entire flush anyways. Maybe put some seafoam in it too if I can afford it.

    Greetings

I've been browsing the forums for a while and decided to sign up. I recently purchased a 1992 Explorer XLT and my Dad owns a 1995 Explorer XLT, I've already done the zip-tie throttle cable fix on both and was surprised by how much more responsive the trucks became, mine took 2 and my dads needed...
