    2000 Explorer Sport - PCM

Picking the vehicle up from the dealer today. I ended up having to purchase a 2nd key to get everything reprogrammed. That was $95 I wasn't expecting to have to spend.

    2000 Explorer Sport - PCM

Thanks guys. I was expecting to have to take it to the dealer with the replacement part for reprogramming. At least I saved about $500 on the part.

    2000 Explorer Sport - PCM

Looking on ebay, I think I figured it out. I found used PCM with matching codes for $65, with a 6 month warranty. Much better than the $535 the Ford dealer quoted me.

    2000 Explorer Sport - PCM

The mechanic verified that the fuel pump is working, and there is gas making it to the engine. He verified that there is no spark coming from the ignition coil, but the ignition coil is good, it wasn't receiving power. He checked the crankshaft position sensor, and verified that it was not...

    2000 Explorer Sport - PCM

Vehicle wouldn't start this morning, and the mechanic verified all of the likely causes and narrowed it down to the PCM module. Luckly, I got it started long enough to get it back to my house. I called a Ford dealer, asking if it would be possible to swap the PCM out with one from a salvage...

2000 Explorer Sport - Check Engine Light Not Working

I had them checked, but wasn't given the exact codes. He said something about the O2 reading and recommended new plugs and wires. I plan to get the exact codes on my next trip to the auto parts store, but I may end up fixing the melted wire harness first.

Learning as I go on my 2000 Explorer Sport

Bought new (used) tires, as the old ones were balding and had uneven wear from the worst alignment I've ever seen. $72 for an alignment $200 for some used tires with plenty of life left in them While having the tires installed, I discovered: Front passenger sway bar link was broken, which...

2000 Explorer Sport - Check Engine Light Not Working

Finally got around to replacing the CEL bulb, after practicing on an Explorer at the salvage yard. Strangely enough, after I verified it worked, the CEL didn't come on for the first day, but has been on for the last two days. I'm sure the fact that my O2 sensor wire harness is melted through...

Swapping in a junk yard resistor did the trick!

2000 Explorer Sport - Help Identifying Noise

Noise identified. The exhaust hanging bracket, not the hanger attached to the pipes, the square metal piece with the bushing inside, is missing a screw and is shaking when the vehicle is running. I tried to grab one of these screws from the junk yard, but couldn't loosen one up. I did also...

2000 Explorer Sport - Help Identifying Noise

I've got a metallic rattle coming from under the car somewhere - not under the hood. I can't locate it. It almost sounds like a jackhammer. It doesn't seem to impact the drive or the engine at all, it's just annoying right now. Click Here for Video **** Edit - smaller video uploaded (2.5 MB)

Just joined the club - need a bit of help

So I didn't really notice this until I took my 10 year old for a drive... The back seats move around quite a bit now. If I grab the front of the seat and pull forward, they move quite a bit. If I sit back there in the seat belt, my weight keeps the seats from moving at all. I don't know if...

High speed wheel shake after brake job

Did they rotate your tires when they did the brake job? If you need new tires and the wear is uneven, that will certainly cause this wobble. It may or may not even out in time if this is the case.

2000 Explorer Sport - Check Engine Light Not Working

As you suspected, it didn't fix anything. I ran some wire to the bolt holding the hood hinge in place for the time being.

    Dead Door Lock Switch Resolved

I just went through this! The wiring diagram for your vehicle will tell you the color. You'll need to test the connections at your relay box, which is most likely in the jack compartment. For me, the wires were frayed less than 6 inches back of the relay box, not in the main run. On my...

2000 Explorer Sport - Check Engine Light Not Working

Any thoughts on the ungrounded wires coming out of the PCM? I'm not eager to pull the instrument panel out again, especially if fixing the ground may resolve my issue.

Learning as I go on my 2000 Explorer Sport

I've never usually been one to work on my own vehicles. I used to change my own oil, and I once swapped out an alternator on a Geo Metro, but that was the extent of it. I recently bought a 2000 Explorer Sport with 145K miles for just $900. I wanted to create a list of the issues I've taken...

2000 Explorer Sport - Check Engine Light Not Working

In troubleshooting some other issues, I learned that my Check Engine Light and Check Fuel Cap aren't working. There is also a light out at the top of my speedometer. All gauges are working, and all other lights are working. I attempted to get behind the instrument panel to check the bulbs...
