The term "stealership" wasn't earned for no reason

I'll go you one better - on a non-Ford product. Truck had LESS than 25K, and was 8 years old (still less than 30K). Took it in for a recall on the airbags - waited for it. They came back 20 minutes later, said my truck NEEDED immediate repairs, over $5,000 worth. I had basically no...

    What is this?

My thanks to all. Am still 'on the fence' about installing this thing. If I can get it apart & repaint it, it will probably go back onto the rear. Have another 90's Explorer rear which also has the same flange molded in w/threaded holes - but no 'vibration damper' came with that one..

    1993 (?) Explorer Differential Issues / Questions -

SO much easier to do this stuff while it is on the bench. Axles out, drum backing plates off. Put the retainer pin back into the differential, just to hold those gears in place (just in case - being cautious), put the diff cover back on, and plugged the axle shaft holes with clean grease...

    What is this?

Thank you! Since I have it, I'm seriously considering cleaning it up and installing it on the differential..

    1993 (?) Explorer Differential Issues / Questions -

All seems good with the differential, no play, action/movement smooth & very solid. As long as I have it 'on the bench', I'm going to pull the axles. check the bearings, replace the seals, then rebuild the brakes to include replacing the wheel cylinders and brake drums - essentially, just about...

    What is this?

Thanks folks! Makes sense - even concerning that it probably wouldn't be noticed if it wasn't installed. It came with an Explorer differential that I bought (taped down to the pallet that the rear came on).

    What is this?

Here are the pictures, after I took it off - - What is it? - What is it's purpose?

    1993 (?) Explorer Differential Issues / Questions -

Background: I have what I believe is a '93 Ford Explorer differential, which I bought some time ago out of a salvage yard. Question #1: I can't find the paperwork on it, and am unsure as to the gear ratio (no tag on differential). I took off the cover, and found these numbers on the ring...

Found - Solution to 1991-1994 Explorer 'Parking Brake Lever', etc..

My 1993 Ford Explorer had a bad rear end / differential (cracked/broken - beyond repair). Nothing locally available, however I was able to easily find a replacement from a salvage yard, going through online searches. Made the mistake of tossing the broken rear end, in preparation of the...

    1994 Explorer Rearend Question

Heh, heh, heh... You might not believe it, but it's a 1939 Hudson pickup truck. And, when that is finished - I've Got a '46 pickup that may get something similiar...(in disc brakes). Just wanted to make sure that ignoring that electrical connection won't cause any issues...

    1994 Explorer Rearend Question

Thanks Mark. Does it matter if that particular sensor is not plugged-in or used for my application? (i.e., no adverse effects?)...

    1994 Explorer Rearend Question

Have bought a 1994 Ford Explorer rearend (3.73 gears, drum brakes) to install into an older truck. I've noticed that there is an electrical wire that runs to the top of the rear differential 'pumpkin'. I believe this is controls (engages/disengages) the 'limited slip' in the rearend...
