To V8s Only - How bad does your mileage suffer with short trips?

I have a 2000 EB V8 AWD. Not sure about the miles per tank but my normal commute of 30 miles 20 of which is expressway I get about 15-16MPG when about 30 degrees out. when it gets down to the teens I get 12-13MPG and during summer 18-19MPG. When doing short trips to the store or to drop...

    Rubbing sound in steering

OK well I had a friend help and it sounds like the noise is coming from the actual steering shaft about where the pedals are. Does this ever need to be lubricated? If so how would I do it? The sound is also starting to show up going clockwise with the wheel as well as counter clockwise...

    Rubbing sound in steering

Anyone have any idea what would cause a rubbing sound in the steering. It sounds like it's comming from the steering shaft and I can feel it in the pedels. It only happens when the steering wheel is going counter-clickwise and only between the 2-3 o'clock position. I can tell something is...

Need some help here. I took my truck to a local body shot after someone rearended me last week. Well I have my truck back and now I have a problem with the Autolamp feature. My autolamps are staying on all the time. It was a bright sunny day today and my lights were on. What sould be...

Beating a dead horse but any one know of a web site that has a step by step ...

Yep that's correct, if yours is a 2nd Gen 2WD then you need to go through the steps of removing the baerings. You see in the 4WD and AWD models, there is the hub/axle assembly which spins as the tire turns, their rotors just sit on that. On the 2WD models all there is as a spindle which does...

Found a hole in my roof, from bad Manufacturing?

No hole on the other side. As for the request for a pic I can give you one but I've already sealed it with clear silicone so you can't really see the hole anymore. As long as the silicone holds I guess I'm not going to worry about it. I guess I'm the only person to have this issue...

Found a hole in my roof, from bad Manufacturing?

No I don't think vandalism, everything I see points to a defect in the sheetmetal during manufacturing. The hole has factory paint on it.

    Gas Guage stays on E

Before you drop the tank check the wires, I can't remember if my wife's was stuck on full or empty, but it ended up a wire harness came loose.

Found a hole in my roof, from bad Manufacturing?

the hole is located at the end of the channel that is right between the side of the roof rack and where the roof starts to round over for the side of the truck. All the way at the end of it right in front of the tailgate. There is no seam or anything that I can see it all appears to be...

    Truck vibrating

ok well do you remeber which tire you dropped? Try replaceing it with your spare. That will at least be able to tell you if it had anything to do with it.

    Truck vibrating

yeah have the balance checked but also check the lug nuts. On my BII once the lugs started to back off and caused a real bad vibration at highway speed. When I pulled over I thanked god I found the problem before the tire fell off.

Found a hole in my roof, from bad Manufacturing?

I went to change the seal in my rear drivers side window, thinking it was leaking. Well after I got the side panel off I followed the water path and found the real problem. I HAD AN F'ING HOLE IN MY ROOF!!!!!! The hole was just shy of an 1/8" in diameter. It was located at the end of...

    Leaking window

Ok well I went to go replace the window seal, but discovered it was not the window that was leaking. It was a hole in the roof.

    Compass is backwards

Check your manual for the section on setting your compass alignment. I don't think it would be that far off, but you never know.

    Leaking window

Well the other night I went in the back of my X to get something and found the carpet all wet, and a little line of water comming down the rear pillar on the drivers side. Well tonight I am going to be fixing this. Has anyone ever had to replace one of these seals? I did My BII a while back...

How many spare tires have gone missing.

The locks are great. pretty easy to install, but the directions were a little off. They say to slide it in the space between the cable winch and the crossbeam it's mounted to. Well that is almost imposible so I just had to unbolt the tire winch then put the lock in place and bolt it back...

What's this in my steering wheel?

Well I think it is only partially right. IMO car makers will not put anything extra in a vehicle unless one of the following are true. 1. Required by law. 2. Expected by customers. 3. make vehicle safer (as in swaybars) 4. is cheaper for them ( as in the extra wiring)

    Subs in the rear tailgate?

Well as for the space I was thinking about giving those Earthquake SWS subs a chance. They have a very shallow depth and from what I hear don't weigh to much. Wire routing I don't think would be an issue as long as the Amp was not on the door as well. just take them the same route as all...

    Subs in the rear tailgate?

I saw someone who had a tahoe and he had a 10" sub in each rear door. My question is has anyone ever installed subs in the rear tailgate of an explorer? How did it sound? If not, what are your opinions of doing so. I was thinking of glassing a seperate box on each side of the tailgate and...

How many spare tires have gone missing.

It was $60 for the rim and $60 for the tire Plus tax. I was getting quotes of almost $100 for rims and $120 for tires for new. I havent looked at the tire much but it's a Futura I think. The tire size is 255/70 R16. Maybe I could have found it cheaper if I kept looking, but I just wanted...

How many spare tires have gone missing.

well neither time for me was rust. When they cut the cable you could see the marks from the bost cutters. and on mine, you can see the scrape markes of the rim being dragged out from under it.
