    Shutter at high speed...

Got in the truck tonight after work and I heard popping sounds from the front, while turning and while driving straight...any ideas?

    Shutter at high speed...

Thanks for the quick responses! How do I know if the rotors are warped? I had the truck aligned about 4 months ago and I have oversized BFgoodrich All-Terrain that are in great shape...31inch I believe. The front wheel bearings, both outer and inner were replaced 15 months/15k ago. Thanks...

    Shutter at high speed...

I have noticed lately that my 94xlt shutters at highway speeds (60-70). I consider this an emergency b/c the shutter is getting more pronounced. I feel it mostly in the steering wheel and in the brake/acceleration pedal, along with below my feet on the driver side. I have noticed that when I...

Won't start when warm, cold start OK

I guess the fuel sender is basically the fuel pump. But I am not absolutely sure. It was only intermittent when it first started. The hesitation, stalling when warm got worse and worse to the point where when I stopped at a light the truck would sputter. Get a gauge and measure the pressure...

Won't start when warm, cold start OK

I had the exact same problem with my 94XLT a couple months ago. I replaced basically every sensor on it and nothing worked, it would start fine cold and if I shut if off when warm/hot it would not start, but stumble. I had to wait at least an hour to let the car cool down. I had no idea what...

    Problems with EGR exhaust tube

Remove the DPFE sensor and bracket and that should give you enough room to tighten the top nut of the EGR tube. For the bottom nut I crawled under my truck and tightened the nut through the wheel well. With your head positioned directly underneath the nut (you will also be below the starter)...

stuck in Phoenix ! Calling all Phoenix Members!!!

Does it have no power when the engine is cold? My 94XLT only acted up when it was warm (no power or acceleration) and the fuel pump sender was the culprit (when it warmed up it would short out and would not provide enough fuel pressure). If it acts up when the engine is hot and cold, then it...

    brakes issue

Tag, if you go into the "List of Useful Threads" forum one of the first posts is a link to a detailed (pictured) instructions on replacing the front brakes, rotors, and calipers on a 91-94 Explorer.

Temperature question - Is this normal?

SportlineXLT, I have the same problem with my 94 XLT, except that I have hardly any heat at all, even with the heater gauge all the way to the right. The temp gauge fluctuates on a consistent basis, from N to M with the heater off and from N to b/t L and Hot with the heater on. The other night...

    coolant leaking

Could the water pump be toast if the lower radiator hose is not getting warm? Or is the bottom of the radiator frozen, which I think it may be b/c it has been so darn cold here (New Hampshire). I really need some help. Should I take it to a ford dealership to diagnose and fix the problem...

    coolant leaking

I let the engine run for fifteen minutes and the lower radiator hose never got hot. The upper began to get warm and the engine never overheated, but remained between N and R. I'll try again later but I have no way to warm up the engine but to let it sit there in the cold and run. No coolant...

    coolant leaking

I went out fifteen minutes later and the overflow resevoir was completely empty and there was hardly any coolant in the radiator itself. I refilled the radiator and resevoir with a higher concentration of coolant and let the engine run for 15 minutes, which in that time I noticed that the top...

    coolant leaking

After driving home from work this evening (in -3 degree weather) and parking I noticed that my temp gauge had gone all the way to H. I could hear coolant bubbling and when I pulled the hood up antifreeze was everywhere. The overflow resevoir was completely full and dumping coolant everywhere...

92 sport - hesitation and loss of power

I had the same problem with my 94xlt and it turned out to be the fuel pump. Not enough pressure was reaching the engine once it was warm.

Limted 94 Loses power when going Up hill!

My check engine light remained on all the time when the engine was warm. When the dealership pulled the codes (which exact ones I don't know) but they were related to incorrect fuel to air ratio. Makes sense if the pump progressively dies out and cannot provide enough fuel pressure to the rails.

    Replacing Catalytic converters

I am a moron. It is a steel tank. Brought in the truck a week ago and the tank still has not arrived. I guess explorer tanks are not in high demand.

Limted 94 Loses power when going Up hill!

I had a similar problem with my 94 XLT. When going up a hill my speed would decrease no matter how hard I pressed on the accelerator. Found out it was the fuel modulator/sender was burning itself out. They had to drop the tank and install a new sender, but that was definitely the problem.

    Replacing Catalytic converters

I did go to autozone once and their incompetence made me feel insecure with them dealing with my car. I needed a new tank because the upper half of the tank was rusted out pretty bad when I saw it. It is a ten year old aluminum tank. It was nearly rusted through where the fuel pump assembly...

    Replacing Catalytic converters

I took my truck to a ford stealership and they found that the problem was the fuel modulator/sender (I believe the same thing?) was burning itself out when it got hot. They also found that I needed a new gas tank and since NO ONE makes aftermarket gas tanks for explorer's I had to dish out...

    Replacing Catalytic converters

I will get those CEL codes as soon as possible. Drove the truck a bit around and CEL remains lit the whole time and if I press the accelerator all the way down there is absolutely NO power. If I lightly press the pedal the car will accelerate. When I slow down and try to accelerate the truck...

    Replacing Catalytic converters

Just went out to start the engine and it started up fine but it now stalls after a few moments. The CEL is on all the time. I went under the truck and the exhaust pipe before the catalytic converters is hot and the pipe after them is cool. What could the problem be now!??!
  23. D

    Replacing Catalytic converters

Yes, the CEL remains on pretty much the entire time the engine is hot. I have not pulled any codes yet but hope to do soon.

    Replacing Catalytic converters

Here are the symptoms and my attempts to fix it. The truck runs fine cold (say within the first 10 minutes of driving). If I shut it off while the engine is warm/hot for over a minute and start it back up the truck shutters and most of the time I experience no acceleration even when I push the...

    Replacing Catalytic converters

Finally found out the long time problem with my 94xlt. The car had been stalling and had no accelaration when hot/warm. Today I started the car and it stalled after about three seconds. I unhooked the EGR tube that runs from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve and started it up and it ran...

    Reaccuring problem with 94XLT

I have not checked the fuel pressure yet...just have not had time. I will soon and get back to you what it reads. The truck still acts up even though I replaced teh canister purge valve.

Need instructions for 94 XLT purge valve

I just replaced the canister purge valve on my 94 XLT. To remove it without removing the upper intake I unhooked the vacuum connection from the throttle body (drivers side on the throttle - removing air intake tube to throttle body makes removing it much easier). I pulled the canister very...

got it back together and only runs 5 sec

It is the cansiter purge valve. I just replaced mine with one from Napa for 27.00. Works well. There are posts on here about how to safely remove it and replace it without breaking the nylon tubes.

    Need help identifying sensor

Took off my upper intake manifold today on my 94 XLT to retorque the lower intake bolts (which by the way were really loose) and in the process unscrewed a sensor from the driver side upper manifold that I have no idea what it is. It is the exact same size as a coolant temperature sensor, but...

    Annoying temp gauge

I replaced the thermostat a week ago and that did not seem to help.

    Annoying temp gauge

The temp gauge on my 94xlt fluctuates from N to M in minute intervals. When I turn on the heat the gauge goes all the way to L. What could be the problem. I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor. Do I just need to flush the coolant system?

    Loose ground cable

I have a loose ground cable on the passenger side of the engine bay in my 94 XLT. One end is currently connected to the passenger fender and the other end is dangling. It right behind the power distribution box. Anyone have any idea where the other end connects to?!?!
  35. D

    Figgidy temp gauge

I put in a new thermostat and coolant temperature sensor today to fix a "lively" temp gauge. After putting both of them in and running the truck the temp gauge still bounces from N to M. What the heck is wrong? I appreciate any info because I am stumped.

Oil and gum in intake manifold

I took off my throttle body today to replace my coolant temperature sensor and discovered that the inside of my upper intake manifold is covered in oil residue. Is this normal? My 94 XLT has 176,000 on it and I know it has a leak in the lower intake manifold gasket. Could this leak cause oil...
