I had the same problem with my 94xlt and it turned out to be the fuel pump. Not enough pressure was reaching the engine once it was warm.

My check engine light remained on all the time when the engine was warm. When the dealership pulled the codes (which exact ones I don't know) but they were related to incorrect fuel to air ratio. Makes sense if the pump progressively dies out and cannot provide enough fuel pressure to the rails.

I am a moron. It is a steel tank. Brought in the truck a week ago and the tank still has not arrived. I guess explorer tanks are not in high demand.

Yes, the CEL remains on pretty much the entire time the engine is hot. I have not pulled any codes yet but hope to do soon.

It is the cansiter purge valve. I just replaced mine with one from Napa for 27.00. Works well. There are posts on here about how to safely remove it and replace it without breaking the nylon tubes.

I replaced the thermostat a week ago and that did not seem to help.

The temp gauge on my 94xlt fluctuates from N to M in minute intervals. When I turn on the heat the gauge goes all the way to L. What could be the problem. I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor. Do I just need to flush the coolant system?

I have a loose ground cable on the passenger side of the engine bay in my 94 XLT. One end is currently connected to the passenger fender and the other end is dangling. It right behind the power distribution box. Anyone have any idea where the other end connects to?!?!
