    Time for tires

The two all season tires that seem to have the better snow traction are the Michelin Defender LTX M/S and Bridgestone Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia in the 255/55R20 size for Limited. Although I live in the Northeast, I found that I don't really need dedicated snows since I usually drive after the...

    Should I get the Explorer?

As Peter pointed out, forums (even Toyota, Subaru, etc) will overwhelmingly be owners seeking answers/remedies about issues. Plus, since the Explorer is the top-selling midsize SUV, the number of complaints on this board is a really small percentage of owners. All makes have some kind of...

    Odd Behavior

I have a 2015 Limited and have not experienced any of the noises that you have. My car is parked outside (garage too small) and cold engine startups have no such noises - just typical idling. Could be a bad belt or pulley?

    Timing Chain Already???

100K miles is fairly standard (older cars it's about 60k miles). $3500 sounds really high, even considering replacing water pump, pulleys, etc. Typical cost is $900-1500. An independent repair shop will be cheaper, as most of the costs is labor.

    2017 VS 2016Highlander comparision

My friend has a 16 Highlander and I compared it to my '15 Explorer Limited, here are the things that I noted: Explorer is quieter - less road noise Ex sound system is much better Ford MyTouch is easier and better - I know folks complain and was always criticism by the auto mags but Toyota and...

Brand new 17 Explorer shakes so bad makes us sick,

I agree about maintaining civility on the forum. This forum is a place to exchange information that is constructive. If folks respond aggressively and/or start questioning the motives each post, it will drive members away and there isn't going to be a forum in the future. I have seen this...

Turning car off with wipers on....

The wipers stop where they are on my 2015 Limited. Not sure if our Outback does that; I'll have to see.

    2016 - 2017 crossbars weight restrictions

I thought it might be the siderails being low and possibly weaker in design than previous years. Plus the Ford cross bars, like most OEM cross bars these days, is pretty weak and would flex/bend such that the more than 45 lbs could cause the load to bounce up and down on the roof. I would...

Foul Smell in Cabin From Vents / AC

This has occurred in other cars that I've owned, most recently a Highlander. It helps to turn off the AC before you park and let the regular air dry out the pipes. I found that you can reduce or get rid of the smell if you spray Lysol into the intake and let the fan run the Lysol through the...

Heated and cooled leather seats ?

I agree with your observations but I think some folks may have unrealistic expectations. The seats were not designed to alter your core temperature (or blow your skirt like Marilyn) but for comfort to keep the seat from feeling sticky from perspiration. The effectiveness of the cooling is...

Drove a '16 MKX - Compare to my '15 Explorer XLT

Thanks for the comparison. We've been thinking about the MKX as a car for my wife. I love my Explorer and glad to see it compares well.:)

2011 ex sony sound system vocals sound muffled

Check the sound settings in the Sony system. The focal point of the sound (balance) can be moved forward/aft as well as left/right. It may be the setting are too much in the front speakers.

    Researching the '16 expl

My 2015 Limited is very quiet already, particularly on the highway. The only time noise is prevalent is on concrete roadways, but that's a function of the tire/road surface in which all tires are noisy. I can't imagine that there would be much difference between the Platinum and Limited in...

Issues with our new 2016 Explorer

I also am sensitive to rattles, etc. I periodically drive without the stereo just to see if I hear anything. So far so good. The Explorer is very quiet, particularly on highways (except concrete roads where its always noisy from the tires). It's the best thing I like about it (and the super...

    Quiet Start/Heated Seats/RPM

I have a 2015 Limited and have the Remote set to Auto, which warms the seats and steering wheel. I didn't know/see anything about Quiet Mode, but my horn doesn't sound off.

    Broken Outside Mirror

I guess your wife will be the only one on this board that won't complain about the mirrors being too small. :-)

    2016 Ford Explorer review, thoughts?

I don't know why it is maligned. It's four, neatly divided quadrants on a nice big screen. All of the touch buttons are easy to figure out and the menus are straightforward. And there's a Home button to get back to the beginning no matter what screen you're on. I'm not the most tech savy...

OEM Hankook Tires, Like or Dislike

I think the Hankooks are the most polarizing tire that I've read about here and Tiretrack. People either despise them or find they're fine. So far I am in the latter camp. 12K on my Hankooks and no complaints about performance in wet and dry, and still pretty quiet. I don't drive fast but not...

Driver Seat and Foot Well Complaints

The left foot well hasn't been an issue for me, and I didn't really notice it until I saw a post about it on the forum - although it would be nicer without the intrusion. I find the seats the most comfortable that I've had in any vehicle. I've taken 5-6 hour trips without having to stop for...

Auto Shut Off For Passenger Heated And Cooled Seats?

On my 2015 Ltd the heated and cooled seats do not shut off automatically. My family prefers it that way, as I can pre-heat the seat before I pick them up.

    explorer 2016 Base from Hell

Toyota and Honda aren't perfect either. How about the Takata airbags in all those Hondas? I owned Toyota, Mazda and Hondas (also Subaru, VW and Saab) prior to getting an Explorer, which was my first US branded car. For example, our Toyota Sienna LTD which had continuous problems with the...

    Buying 2016 Sport next week

I vote for Ruby Red - hides any blemishes better and there are so many white vehicles on the road today (White is the new Black).

third row auto fold not folding

Use the levers on the side to fold - they're easier. I tend to use the handles/cord for returning the seat to the upright position. Don't forget to fold down the headrest. :)

Talk Me Into a New 16 Sport!!!

I would definitely rent one for a weekend and long ride (at least 2 hrs) to see if the ergonomics work. I'm 5'11" and find the seats the most comfortable of any vehicle that I've driven. With prior vehicles I would shift around a bit from time to time to relieve pressure points. No need for...

Thinking about buying a Ford Explorer Platinum...

I would try an Edmund's, AAA or other pricing service to get some easy comparative shopping, at the very minimum. I'm sure you can do a bit better than MSRP.
