Hairline crack on top of radiator
Regarding the antifreeze, is this stuff okay to use? I've always used the green Peak or Oreilly brand that says compatible with Ford, but I bought two gallons of this Prestone stuff and would prefer to just use it. I see they also make a "Conventional Green" and then an orange one (for Ford/GM)...- aberrant

Hairline crack on top of radiator
Thanks. The one from my local shop was $170. My factory radiator has lasted me 20 years and ~158,000 miles. Not bad I suppose. For most of the repairs done on the truck, I've used Motorcraft parts. Not a fan of aftermarket, but due to the age/value of the vehicle and the cost of a Motorcraft...- aberrant

Hairline crack on top of radiator
New radiator arrived from the local shop. It's made in China which I'm not thrilled about, but my research suggests that most are made in China nowadays. 1 year warranty on it. The quality definitely doesn't look as good as the Motorcraft one, but I hope it does the trick. The brand is RadCool...- aberrant

Hairline crack on top of radiator
Well, it looks like the consensus is to replace it, so replace it I will. A local shop quoted me $170 for the radiator (Rad-Cool I think he said?). Oreilly's wants $160 for a Murray radiator and a whopping $286 for a Motorcraft one. I'd prefer to support the small, independent shop, so I'll...- aberrant

I definitely don't want it to overheat damage the engine, so I will look into replacing the radiator. Here's a better photo when it's dry. You can clearly see the crack. Thanks.- aberrant

Battery Issues
When I went to Oreilly's to pick up the new battery, I had them check the charging system. They said the alternator looked okay (tested while running) and then I shut off the truck and they tested the battery, determining that it was bad. Is there another test I should do? Thanks.- aberrant

Hairline crack on top of radiator
There is a 1" hairline crack on the top left side of my radiator that I noticed about a month ago. I've never noticed any fluid on the ground, so I think it's evaporating. This is the first time I've seen fluid on the top as shown in the photo. My question is, how bad does this look? Should I...- aberrant

Thanks. Yes, they are original cables. They look fine apart from that cracked clamp that I have since replaced. Thanks for the info regarding the grease. I didn't know Vaseline could be used. I should clarify that the corrosion was only on the negative terminal. I did clean that pretty thoroughly. There was a lot of corrosion on my negative battery terminal, so I cleaned everything and put it back together. My '99 Explorer EB 4.0 has an intermittent staring problem. It starts up fine, but when coming back down to idle RPM, it sometimes drops significantly and then dies. Doesn't happen all the time. Front Passenger Side Squeal When Turning & Creaking While Driving Straight
Update: It was my lower ball joint on the passenger side. Wasn't bad, just needed to be greased. Somehow the Zerk fitting was damaged and wasn't accepting new grease. I also didn't know that these should be greased at every oil change, which they hadn't been ever since I replaced them around 30k...- aberrant

Front Passenger Side Squeal When Turning & Creaking While Driving Straight
I have a 99 Explorer that is making a lot of noise from the front passenger side. I've done my homework and it looks like others have reported loose caliper bolts, a loose brake line, or torsion bar trouble. I'm thinking it's the torsion bar, as it does not squeal when turning all the way to...- aberrant

Thanks all. It is loose, and seems to be attached with only one flimsy bracket. I'll have to figure out a way to secure it or remove it completely. As for the other heat shields, I've already used a band clamp on two. The spot welds did come loose.- aberrant

Strange Start-Up Noise and Idle
Hmmm, wondering if an oil change every 2000 miles would help? I usually do it at 3k. Strange Start-Up Noise and Idle
I have a intermittent start-up noise after the truck has been sitting overnight. It sounds as if it's being over cranked and only lasts for a second. I have a 99 eddie bauer that is making a lot of noise from the rear end. It sounds like an old mattress spring that has seen better days. Leaking Cargo Window??
After another good amount of rain here, I checked the rear for a leak, but no water this time. The truck was parked level as opposed to on an incline (front end upwards) when the leak happened. I did the suggested lock to lock turns in a parking lot moving very slowly. Seems to have resolved most the shaking. I still get a bit, so maybe a few more lock to lock turns are in order. But for the most part, it is greatly improved.- aberrant
