Water pump failure leads to dead engine

2014 XLT with 146k. The only issue I have had is the left rear wheel bearing had to be replaced around 64k.

enough doom and gloom, lets hear some high mileage, reliable 5th gen. stories.

I have a 2014 XLT 3.5 4x4 with 140k on the clock. Other than routine scheduled maintenance the only issue I had was the left rear hub failed at 69k. I had Ford ESP, so that was covered under warranty. I have used Motorcraft oil and filters since I bought it. Never had the water leaks and it runs...

    Water Leak

That is some ugly repairs. You think they could have smoothed out the sealer since they were charging you.

    Water Leak

I have a 2014. I have sealed under the roof rack rails, it was easy to remove them. I just started getting the cracks in the sealant on both sides of the hatch.

    2011-2017 wheels same pattern?

    Good stuff, thanks for posting.

    2011-2017 wheels same pattern?

These were brand new 2017 wheels and they did not have TPMS sensors. The guy at Discount Tire even pointed to the rubber valve stems. Could different models be different and/or Canada models.

2014 Explorer Drive train whirr noise

I had the left rear wheel bearing go bad on my 2014 at 70,000. I initially thought it was the tires. Spinning the wheel while jacked up I could not feel anything in the bearing. I had a shop put it on a lift and then put in drive and we could isolate the sound to the left rear. I had the ESP...

    2011-2017 wheels same pattern?

FYI, bought a set of brand new take offs fom a 2017 for my 2014. I kept getting a tire pressure sensor error. Took the Explorer to Discount Tire and was informed the 2017 Explorer wheels do not use TPMS sensors. A computer monitors the rpm of each wheel and if one get out of spec due to a low...

Water pump failure leads to dead engine

2014 here with 107,000 miles. The only issue I have had is the left rear wheel bearing went out at 70,000 miles and it was covered under the ESP warranty I had.

    Windshield Cracked / Replacement

IMHO I believe aftermarket glass is not as resistant to rocks as the OEM. When I had a Fusion the original windshield lasted over a year and I went through 3 aftermarket during the next 1 1/2 years. It was a company car so I did not have a choice on the windshield.

Issues with our new 2016 Explorer

My 2014 has 68k and I have friends tell me when they have ridden with me for the first time they can't believe how quite and comfortable the new Explorer is.

Water pump failure leads to dead engine

I throw my 2 cents in. I bought a 2014 XLT last month. This is my 7th Ford. 97 Windstar, 2000 Windstar, 2000 Expedition, 2000 Taurus, 2005 Expedition, 2009 F150, 2010 Fusion, Supercrew 4x4 Never had an issue with any of them. I put 95k on the Fusion in 2.5 years without any issues. I went from a...

    Explorer's Poor Headlights

I do a lot of driving at night and on dark roads. There were many nights on dark wet roads that I actually had to check the switch to see if the lights were on. So my lights may have been pointed up too far. I was on the highway last night and could see down the road just fine with low beams. I...

    Explorer's Poor Headlights

Last night I adjusted my headlights down. I rotated the adjusters 10 turns each side and the difference is astounding. I can see the road in front of me and the high beams light up the road in the distance. If you have not adjusted your lights down, give it a try before spending money on new bulbs.

XLT with no rear heat using front controls.

This issue just started this weekend. No rear heat when using the front driver controls, but if I switch to rear climate control there is heat in the rear. I can set the front controls to max heat and on any fan setting it blows cold. When I change to rear control there is heat on any heat...

Driver Seat and Foot Well Complaints

I am 6'4'', 225 and I find the seat comfortable and have no issues with leg room. I have made 2 ten hour round trips in the last month and my Explorer is very comfortable.

Driver Seat and Foot Well Complaints

I had a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu as a company car and it had an electric emergency brake. I was always forgetting to turn it off when I backed out of the drive way. The 2014 Malibu changed to a manual E brake.

OK, So What Do You DISLIKE About The 5th Gen?

A couple of additions- I now agree on the headlights. On several recent night drives when the streets were wet I had to check to make sure the headlights were actually on. I couldn't tell from visually looking at the road in front of me. I am 6'4'' and have hit my head on the open tailgate...

    Headlight bucket removal

I recently had the fender splash shield out and could see two bolts on the bottom of the headlight assembly. Access looks really tight, but doable.

    Water Leak

I bought my 14 XLT about 3 weeks ago. The first night I had it home in the garage I went through it familiarizing myself with everything and found the mat under the spare tire damp. I removed the spare tire cleaned and dried the area and let the mat dry. I checked all over the back of the XLT...

OK, So What Do You DISLIKE About The 5th Gen?

Bought my XLT almost 3 weeks ago, so far- 1)Radio controls-Too many buttons to push to change from FM to AM to Sirius 2)Windshield washer nozzles freeze in very cold weather, even with -35 washer fluid. 3)Driver foot well room, I am 6'4'' and on a recent 5 hour trip I didn't feel it was too...
