Simmons t-stat housing
I did add a thin bead of copper rtv betweeh the motor and the housing when I installed it, along with the rubber gasket that came with it. No more leaks! I was concerned about future needs to replace a broken thermostat so I used rubber gasket and paper gasket for this portion.- DirtJack

Simmons t-stat housing
I was able to install mine this weekend. The old housing was a challenge to get out. PArticularly because one of the bolts had seized up. Had to break the insert away from the plastic housing to remove the bolt. So far so good with no more leaks.- DirtJack

So when are we considered modified
I have replaced enough bolt on parts that I am starting to wonder when she is a modified 97. Only parts I consider modified are the headlights, air intake and the bigger tires.- DirtJack

Air conditioner stops blowing while accelerating... What gives???
It's running, seems to be spinning when the condensor turns on while the vehicle is in my driveway. I have since found out that the original Thermostat housing has been leaking coolant from the dreaded seam. Going to replace that then look into the AC cutting out. Seems connected to the WOT...- DirtJack

Air conditioner stops blowing while accelerating... What gives???
My 1997 Ford Explorer does a similar thing. Just under normal driving, city streets, stop and go traffic it works for maybe 15 minutes then cuts off. Blowing hot air from the dash vents not the defrost. Is this a vacuum hose issue? AC works fine if outside temps are in the 60s. Once you get over...- DirtJack

AC shuts off HELP!!
I have a similar issue where it will work for awhile and then stop working. No hard accelerating on my part. Seems to work longer when the weather is cooler out when the AC is not needed. Is there a sesnsor that shuts off the compressor if it gets too hot in the engine bay?- DirtJack

Spyder Headlamps/Broken plastic
So I bit the bullet an upgraded to Spyder lights after having to replace the stock Headlamps a 3rd time. Issue now is almost all the plastic bushings to hold the little posts that stick out have disintegrated. Anyone know what size rubber grommet fits?- DirtJack

VIS Conversion
I am sorry for being so dense, but I just don't get what you are trying to tell me. The broken hose is currently connected to the Variable intake Solenoid shown below. I need to figure out where the other end connects. I have looked and just can't find it.- DirtJack

Something vacuum related broke
OK. Thanks. Looks like I am dealing with a variable intake system (VIS) vacuum hose that broke. 2000 Street Rod's post showing a harness helps me know what to look for. I'll let y'all know what I find.- DirtJack

Something vacuum related broke
Newbie. Thanks for the patience as I delve into the fun of learning. Multiple questions. 1 - I have a 1997 Ford Explorer that is a salvage. A new used motor was put into her. How do I find out the specifics of this motor. 2 - What is the device I have circled and numbered 1 called? where...- DirtJack

Blew the head gasket...
Thanks for the feedback all. Yes it's a SOHC. Odometer stopped working at 217,106. Bought it for $600.00. I live in a mobile home park that allows some maintenance but no projects. I want to fix it myself but not sure I have the time to set aside right now.- DirtJack

Blew the head gasket...
I'm in san Jose CA. Blew the head gasket on a 1997 Explorer 4 x 4. Place I am living at will not let me work on it as a multi day project. Any recommendations for places to call to find out the cost of putting in a new motor?- DirtJack

New Owner of a 1997 Ford Explorer
Hey all! Looking forward to learning and wrenching on my 1997 Ford explorer. First issue to tackle is California SMOG. Have failed and am getting P0171 and P0174 error codes. Going to check for vacuum leaks and go from there.- DirtJack
