Building a 4.0 OHV for power

i could justify buying a 4bt for the ranger and just building the frame+suspension up to handle the increased weight. *EDIT* i just found this. CUMMINS 4BT 3.9 TURBO DIESEL ENGINE w/ 5 speed manual kit FREE SHIPPING! | eBay

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

nah, i quit drinking after this happened to my last car. (pic attatched) (2007 pacifica 4.0,twin turbo,AWD swap, built the 6spd,made about 477hp. caught fire due to a short in the stock transmission wiring harness.) it was unrelated to the drinking, but after that happened i just sorta quit doing...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

hes still building the truck. this is his 7th engine now. hes got about 285k$ into the truck so far. last time he ran it was on the highway and i was racing him in my twincharged + nitrous crown vic (4x4,32" offroad tires, and a 8spd auto, behind a BUILT 5.4) and we were going about 110, we matted...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

i know a supercharger will give me the low end grunt. i plan on getting a m112 installed for that instant low end power. i want to go turbo becuase i already have the turbo. its a stock turbo, came off a dodge 2.2L and would spool around 3-4k, so i assume on a engine almost double the size it'd...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

18psi AND NITROUS? i'll pass. i wouldnt mind having a m90 on it though. maybe someday i'll work up to a nice twincharged system with a m90 and twin t3's

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

i know they will, but at the same time they will help my fuel economy by giving me lower engine RPM's. i might swap the gears in the axles out to 4.10's but stock its 3.73 and limited slip and i really like that. i could just stay in 4th longer i guess

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

i spilled the beans on the trans stuff already. i'll be doing the same stuff as him. my neighbor runs a machine shop and im thinking about getting all the gears and shafts in the m5 made out of blueprinted tungsten carbide. becuase y'know, that would DEFINATELY handle the 400hp i'd push MAXIMUM...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

hell yeah. i was thinking 6psi at 1500-3500. but my neighbor (long time mechanic, built over 40 4.0's over his life, dude makes the BIG $$ just giving advice) thinks the 4.0 and m5 will be rock solid if i only get on it in each gear, never try to power shift, and shift before 4k. even at 10-15psi...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

speaking realistically, im used to building 440's and 460's and 572's and huge engines that make alot of power. so if im saying numbers that are way too high then im sorry. im not chasing numbers, im just going to build the engine using the best parts that i can afford and whatever it makes then...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

what is this "TTB" you keep referring to? im just trying to make it into a comfortable daily driver. im not trying to race it or tow anything with it. im going to be switching the suspension to full coilover suspension and any work the ranger needs done will be professionally done. replacing...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

like i said, im going to be putting a built m5 behind it. and well,l if you think the SOHC conversion will be difficult im not going to do it. again, im not trying to make any horespower. im going to limit the max RPM to just over 4k, im not going t push any part of the drvietrain very hard. i...

deep love for the expy, want another one.

update, im getting a 4x4 4.0 ranger instead. life changed and i live alone now just me & my dog. that, and it was ALOT easier to find a 4x4, 4.0 ranger wth the 5spd. its lifted, has 33" tires, and is just f**king mint man. im buying a 4.0 SOHC a friend was going to pulled out of his SVO mustang...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

80hp? jesus christ. my neighbor's friend has a racing 4.0 SOHC that was pulled from a svo mustang, engine has 47k original miles, needs a rebuild from sitting. 1100$. im thinking about picking it up and building it a little bit, bringing it back to snuff and maybe throwing a few upgrades into it...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

bigger tires will take more torque to turn, becuase their covering a greater distance. this is a variable that affects the overall total gear ratio (effective) and has to be taken into account on a dyno, if not taken into account then yes you will see losses. the only way that you will get less...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

thats the correct formula for calculating power. im a mechanical + automotive engineer, i can back his claim up. 210hp would be perfectly fine by me. does the SOHC make more power? i can buy one of those and drop it in,in an afternoon assuming the wiring is the same. the trucks got these ****ing...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

i made arrangements to buy the 4.8/5.3 off my neighbor. its going to sit in his garage until its fully built. im going to buy the engine, a massive precision turbocharger (i think its a 106mm?), a set of long tube headers, and the wiring harness he has for it. then were going to buy aftermarket...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

i wouldnt mind dropping a 4.0 SOHC in either, if that'd be easier to build.

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

custom work is my specialty. i have a machine shop that will gladly make me fully forged everything for the 4.0, and i could even get a blueprinted billet block made up if i cared for it. and yeah, **** tom, i built a 3.0 with his parts and ended up blowing the heads off around the 250hp...

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

heavy duty stage 3 ported, polished + flowed heads, oversized valves, custom cam, 4.3L stroker crank (forged) + forged rods + forged lightweight pistons and of course, turbocharger. got a 15k budget planned for it.

Building a 4.0 OHV for power

any update on this?!?!?! im looking at picking up a 4x4 ranger with 3.73 gears, limited slip axles, 33" tires, 6" lift, and the beloved 4.0 OHV, oh, and its the 5spd manual. and i want to build some power out of the engine. and by some im thinking 450lb-ft and 300~hp. i have a t3/t4 garret...

deep love for the expy, want another one.

ive always loved the explorer sport, not so much the 4door model (dont want to deal with all that extra weight + fuel usage lol) i used to have a 2001 explorer sport SOHC, automatic RWD and it had 3.73 final that i swapped to 4.10 with a locker, had some all terrain tires on it and put a bit of...
