This has been a whopping learning experience, but I'm glad I did it even if in the end I'm not so sure if it was financially all that different than going to a garage. At least I now know my car inside and out and am equipped with a metric ****load of tools to deal with a lot of issues myself...

    Roof rack plastic yellow thingies?

My truck came to me without the running bars that cross side to side, and I needed to add some so I bought a set on eBay a while ago and installed them. My car has a strange history, made even stranger by me so I'm not surprised this part was missing or whatever. Point is, I broke one of the...

Alright excellent news friends! Long story short, two bent PCM pins (which according to the schematics do nothing on the 4.0L but let's ignore that for now) were discovered when I decided to remove the PCM for inspection after we thoroughly diagnosed literally everything else. Dad didn't want...

No crank / no start after PCM reset attempt

It was connector C110 which is part of the upstream of the starter circuit. It's near the PCM and managed to get unconnected. I doubt passer bys will have this problem unless they were messing around that area like I was.

OK, good news everyone. Car starts. After a metric ****load of troubleshooting, including fuse F1.12, F2.29, the relay, several voltage and resistance readings later (we're an EE and a CS pretending to remotely understand cars here), we finally realized that connector C110? Was the issue...

I've figured out that it's not the anti-theft system, but I have absolutely lost the ability to start the car after having done this. I have a theory after spending about four hours going through schematics. I think I may have blown the F1.12 fuse that controls both the starter and ignition...

No crank / no start after PCM reset attempt

I've been chasing down a P0351 after an engine rebuild. Long story short both suggested here on these forums and in this video I decided to attempt to reset the PCM in an attempt to get the car to forget the issue and maybe maybe resolve it. That may sound stupid (because it is) but at this...

We just got done testing all the coil wires on the harness. None short to ground and all have continuity between both female connectors on the harness. I have the Ford Service DVD so I have access to the diagrams and pinouts. This was probably bad advice. I only have one set of keys and I'm...

Engine turned over OKish but starts to rumble hard, we've confirmed no spark on #1, we suspect no spark on #4 or #5 as well (whatever the other one on that coil is). We're thinking it's electrical, not sure I like where this is going. Either the wiring harness is ****ed up somewhere which is...

P0351 is hanging around, even after replacing the coil pack. On the old pack which is probably good I wasn't getting spark between the pack and the plug wire. Not sure what to do about that. The power steering pump is pissed off atm. Making a hell of a grumble noise, We're pretty sure it's air...

    Name that sensor...

No, there are two connectors on the PCV shown. One of them is gone. Like just missing. The big white and black two pin connector is there and connected but the one pin grey connector is nowhere to be found.

Had a low oil pressure indication, turns out we ripped the wire going to the oil sending unit and completely didn't notice / forgot to plug it in. A trip to AutoZone to get a new connector and a crimp connector later and we're in business on that end. But another issue has popped up. P0351 and...

    Name that sensor...

Thanks, can't find the grey connector anywhere, new PCV's don't seem to include it, not sure what to do.

    Name that sensor...

I need to know what this sensor is and what it's called. The circled in green connector is missing after an engine rebuild that involved replacing the VCs. I have no idea how it got misplaced, but it's completely gone now. There are a couple of other connectors like this one on the car, I...

Engine is back in, it turned over very easily but we didn't run it long at all. We're getting a low oil pressure indication, could be a number of things, we're working on it. No check engine light yet.

VC's & fuel rails installed, I also took the time to clean the injectors. Sorry for the out of focus picture. Anyway I launched one of the damn fuel injector O rings and had to go looking for it. I found it! I also spent some time cleaning up the mating surface for the intake. I've got new O...

So I installed the seal that came with the kit but I'm not happy with it. I went ahead and bought an OEM seal. Thing was expensive, $31. My next issue are the valve covers. I had bought a replacement set because the garage I had do a leak down test said the RH one was cracked. It probably isn't...

So I have a dumb question. What the hell holds the front main oil seal in place? There's just a cylindrical hole with no flats on either side that the seal goes in. That's basically it?

Low oil pressure warning on LCD in aux

Before my timing chain issue developed over the summer I was due for an oil change and I had started to get the LCD panel on for instrument cluster warning about low oil pressure only when the key was in the position between off and on. I think it's aux, not sure. Whatever step is right before...

For now, since I'm a broke ass graduate student (don't worry I just recently interviewed at Google, didn't get the job but a narrow miss means I'm going to land somewhere just fine), anyway since it's a easy to change out later kind of part, for now I'm going to leave it. I'll happily change the...

Why oil? Why not water? I'm mostly worried about the RTV on both sides of the timing cover and only one on the water pump. Surely there's no way both of those are correct. I'll replace the theromstat gasket after I get the car running again for sure. New VC's have new gaskets.

Alright guys, good news. Timing complete. I did not do the balance shaft chain or balance shaft lower guide because I didn't feel like taking the block cradle off. Don't care enough, hopefully won't regret it. I have also at this time put the timing cover and water pump back on. I have a few...
