They did in 89' but the gearboxes had a different position for the shifter.

Can you change the shifting positions on the R1? Im swapping the 5r55e with an m5od and need the position to be closest to the bellhousing.

If I can find it I'll post if here for other aero owners trying to do this mod. I'm not sure where to find a 97 aero diagram, I've looked in almost every thread on ford-trucks.com and only found a dead link which had a pdf of the system. If only I could get my hands on a ford service manual...
