Is there a way to pull the ABS codes on a 98 Explorer without having a scan tool?

OK, I tried this and it didn't work. My indicator doesn't line up. Found the wheel and spun it. Nothing. Any ideas?

I need to find out which trans I have. It's a 98 Explorer XLT, 4 door, 4.0 EFI v6, 4x4. I got under it but it's not marked anywhere. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You're probably right about the IAC. If I can get it off I'll clean it. I've tried to take it off a few times but the screws won't budge. I think I may have stripped the head of one of them.

It normally starts fine, but occasionally it is hard to get turned over. Seems to come and go. Any ideas? 4L OHV

I just purchased a 4 channel amp & speakers for my wifes Explorer. Do I have to use a set of RCA cables that is specifically for 4 channel amps or can I use 2 sets of 2 channel cables? thanks in advance

Thanks for the replies. I may just go with a 2 channel for the front speakers and either a mono or 2 channel to push the subs. I don't think I'll mess with the rear door speakers, but if I do then I'll just go with a 4 channel to push all the speakers. I'll probably go with Infinity speakers...

thanks Dan. I will use an aftermarket sub, probably a single 10" or single 12". Nothing major, just something to give it some bass. She listens to the hip-hop/Top 40 stuff. Maybe 2 amps would be better. Is under the rear seat the best mounting option for them?

The HU has 2 sets of pre-outs and a seperate subwoofer out.

just drove it and it handles much better. Guess the tire was the culprit. Oh well, new pads/calipers can never hurt.

Wife took it back to Big-O today. Turns out the front right tire is worn from it being out of align. They didn't drive it and didn't know it was doing it. They rotated and balanced the tires and now it drives fine. I haven't looked at the tire yet but the guy told my wife it should be good...

That's what I thought so I replaced both front calipers before getting it alligned. It pulls all the time, not just when braking, but I changed the calipers anyway. I'm hoping they got in a hurry before closing and just didn't do the alignment.

The trans in my 98 has developed a small shudder. I'm going to change the filter & clean the pan. Is there a certain fluid to put in to help with the shudder? I had this same problem with my 97 Mustang GT. Put Mercon IV( I think) in and it's fine since. thanks in advance

something I thought of, could it be the passenger side sticking or could the driver side not be clamping forcing the other side to do all the work? Is there a way to check them to see whats happening?
