Rough idle, no power when warm - no codes

I'm not sure what exactly spark leak is. The wires were probably mid grade (the same thing I bought this time, for about $25). They seemed to run fine until one morning. But I should clarify that my commute is very short (5 mi) so through the winter the underhood temps maybe never got that...

Rough idle, no power when warm - no codes

Spark Plug Wires! I just remembered I never updated this post. I decided on a low-budget gamble and replaced the plug wires. To my surprise this resolved the issue!

Rough idle, no power when warm - no codes

Ok, I give up. I've been searching the forums for hours and I can't seem to find anyone with a similar problem, so here goes. 94 Explorer Sport, manual trans, 196K. A few weeks ago it started missing and sometimes running rough. I checked spark and #5 was weak and did not follow the wire...

    93 Ford Explorer-Running like crap

Finished up the replacement today. FYI, I highly recommend NAPA over Pep Boys standard parts. I demolished the pep boys ones when a needle fell down and I had to push them back out. (I had tried to get the Pep Boys premium ones for a few bucks more but they were out of stock.) The NAPA ones...

    93 Ford Explorer-Running like crap

Good news - I found the problem. My rear universal joint has play! I can't believe the symptoms tricked me into thinking it was an engine problem. This will be a lesson - bad u-joints can quiet down when the gas is not applied

    93 Ford Explorer-Running like crap

Congrats on the fix. I haven't had much time to work on mine since it's not garaged and it's been in the 20's for the last week. I have not checked the intake bolts since I can't easily get to them. I did check a few things: 1. coil resistance seems decent, around 1.2 ohm between B and 1,2,3...

    93 Ford Explorer-Running like crap

Thanks MrShorty, the fouled plug was the middle on the drivers side (#5?). It appeared to be ash fouled. (spark plug wear) I just replaced it with a new one since all the rest were in perfect shape. I just changed it yesterday so I doubt it's fouled, but the engine still appears to be missing...

    93 Ford Explorer-Running like crap

I'm investigating the same problem now. My X is a recreational vehical so I don't drive it much. I noticed a few weeks ago it started to get an engine vibration in 2nd gear and above. The problem has gotten worse since. I checked plugs/wires and found one fouled plug but even after replacing...

    Traction Loc FRONT differential?

This may be a stupid question, but is the front diff ever a limited slip/traction loc? (I searched on this and found my door code is D4 so I know I have 3.73 limited slip.)

'93 Sport - Won't Shift in 4-wheel. Lots of Snow!

Another 94 Explorer, in Seattle, with bad hubs! Except mine went out the weekend before the big snow. I took mine apart and noticed a generous amount of lub in there. I was going to spend time cleaning it up when I noticed the drivers side had two little square chunks of metal in them...

    4WD kicks out; Flashing Lights!

JoeDirt, after searching on this website, I concluded my auto hubs are either trashed or just binding up. EVERYONE on this site recommends switching to manual locking hubs because of durability and cost (manual are much cheaper than auto). Since I only use 4WD for going up to the pass for...

    4WD kicks out; Flashing Lights!

I have 94 Sport and I just began to have problems yesterday. I went up in the snow, hit the 4X4 button and the light came on but no 4X4. I could tell because the rear end was coming around on me! I'm going to take it apart ASAP and lube everything and I hope that will do it. -mike
