Starter quiet as a mouse... WHEN IT SHOULD BE CRANKING!!!

i have the relay that plugs in like a fuse. incidentally, i used a little wire and jumped the terminals on the relay and the starter cranked pefectly and the engine ran smoothly. so somewhere between the key and the relay is effed up. if it was a anti-theft issue it won't run at all correct?

So I changed out the engine in this beast ('98 4x4 eddie bummer with a 4.0 SOHC v6) bolt it all in, hook up all the hoses, add fluids, get behind the wheel to "crank 'er up" and nothing!!! all the electrical seems fine, lights all work fine, radio comes on, I didn't cross any wiresor hook up...

Engine swap 2wd SOHC in 4wd HELP!!

I am glad you got it running smoothly at first... I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I have been down this path. My first engine I installed lasted exactly two months before the timing chain went all out of whack, never had any vibration problem though sooo....coincidence said me so I...

    Alternator wiring question (with picture)

I didn't see the yellow and white wire at the fuse box in the engine bay but I did find it in the bundle on the connector that is on the vehicle. I ran the wires and hooked them up just past the connector. This should be okay right?

    1997 fan removal

you need to "rent" the fan clutch removal tool from autozone, basically it is just a couple of wrenches made out of flat plate. http://www.thepartsbin.com/cartools/images/otc-7885.jpg http://www.pten.com/images/article/1243886625853__SPTools_61200FanClutchWre_PTEN_0.png

    Alternator wiring question (with picture)

ok, fuse six gets power straight from the battery then it simply has a jumper going to relay #4, it supplies power to it. do I still connect it to fuse 6? i also checked the wire cluster at the connector coming off the engine (see picture) and i did not see either the larger yellow wire...

    Alternator wiring question (with picture)

the harness that came with the '97 engine totally does not have the connector. i followed it back as far as it goes (had to remove the black tape around the currugated plastic sleeve, it appeared to not have been messed with before) and did not find any open ended wire ends or any cut wires. It...

    Alternator wiring question (with picture)

Can anyone tell me what this connector is for? I am replacing the engine on my '98 with an engine from a '97 and the harness that came with the '97 doesn't have this connector on it but the picture of my '98 clearly shows that it was hooked up. what is it for?

    Explorer/Mountaineer Ford Repair Book Reference

weird vibration I just installed a SOHC replacement engine in my 98 4x4 explorer and It is doing this weird vibration when sitting at idle on park. it smooths out when in gear and at speeds. The engine came from a wrecked 2wd with 70k miles. Other than the vibration at idle on park it runs...

    No compression on one side.

yes it is a SOHC, and I did a search but could not find a thread that discussed re-setting the timing. the biggest thread I found just talked about changing out the plastic chain guides in the front of the engine due to annoying rattle. basically i need to know how to get my engine back in...

    No compression on one side.

I have a '98 that just lost compression on cylinders #1,2, & 3 on the passenger's side of the engine. I have been informed by the dealer that it is prolly a "jumped time" incident and I have to "adjust" the timing chains. 1. why would jumped time only screw up one side of the engine? 2...

    4X4 VS 4X2 engines??

Is this only when it is in 4x4 engaged mode?
  24. J

    Will a 2wd engine work ok in a 4x4?

I know that the 4x4 have an extra timing chain but the 2x2 engines seem to be externally identical. If I install a 2wd engine in my 98 explorer will it be okay? How crucial is that extra timing chain?

    4X4 VS 4X2 engines??

what is the difference between the two? the Haynes book says "4WD models are equippped with balance shaft chain attached to the crankshaft sprocket" is this a del breaker? can an engine off a 1998 4x2 explorer fit into 98 4x4 vehicle? What the heck does thsi mean and what does it do...
