Do I need to change Tranny Fluid?

The argument for not changing is that once a transmission gets to a certain point there is so much wear in it that the fluid by itself is not enough to make it run. All the metal fragments in the fluid are helping the transmission run and once you change the fluid you'll loose the metal and...

    vacuum lines

The one that can clearly be seen in the first picture is capped in my car. I had the same problem about a year ago where the cap must have blown off. I looked all around and couldn't find a hose.

    keys and door locks

Ford doesn't keep key information for cars as old as ours. At least the dealership near me didn't, they told me they could only help it was a '97 or newer. They can also help out if you have your key code which is something that came with my car. My guess is you don't have it anymore because...

    transmission modulator valve

The tough part of going from the top is you won't be able to see and touch the parts at the same time. It took me a while to get things back to together because I'd have to look around and get my bearings, then crouch down and work blind. I didn't pay very close attention to how the modulator...

    '92 Explorer w/ Kill Switch Won't Start

To build off of MrShorty's post. A lot of times the cables corrode internally, so the ends may look fine but the insides have rusted up. The kill switch acting up seems like a fairly likely cause as well.

How big is our gas tank?

I've run mine dry once and it took a little more than 19 gallons to fill it back up.

    Center console parts

I had the same problem, my original even matched the color of the interior but i could never find anything but black. I ended up finding a replacement on ebay

    Engine Codes

It was definitely operator error. I just couldn't get it to proceed past the turn the wheel a half turn and apply the break phase. I thought I was doing it right, but it just wouldn't go on and I had to get going somewhere. I'm about to head out of town on a ski trip and I don't have a...

    Engine Codes

I have a '94 explorer with almost 184,000 miles on it. I live in Kansas City and go to college in Lincoln, NE. During the drive between the two cities The check engine light will come on and off starting about halfway through the trip. I finally got around to pulling some codes. KOEO 341 -...

    Temp gauge

For as long as I had the car, which is the last few years, my temp gauge barely registers past the C. Recently it started working its way to the halfway point between hot and cold. It sits about dead center in the "normal" range, but I'm not sure what to think of it. Its been running fine so...

    Vibrations starting at about 70mph

When the frame is bent that much most of the time the car is never quite the same. I wouldn't be surprised if the frame is still a little messed up somewhere and at high speeds causes problems.

    Tackling vacuum modulator tomorrow

Not sure yet, I haven't driven too far on it yet. I need to get some gas first. She is definitely idling smoother. Thats what tipped me off in the first place the idle was real loud and rough.

    Tackling vacuum modulator tomorrow

Thought I'd report back. For anyone that hasn't done this job it sucks. Everyone mentions there is very little room to work with, but until you actually try it you don't realize just how cramped it is. It took me forever to get everything put back into place. My buddy ended up not coming...

    Tackling vacuum modulator tomorrow

We're going from the top, I saw I need to grease the pin what kind of grease would be good for this?

    Tackling vacuum modulator tomorrow

Tomorrow a friend of mine is headed over to help me replace the vacuum modulator. I have the part and was wondering if there is anything else I should pick up? One of the how to threads suggested 6-8 inches of vacuum hose, but I was a little confused because that wouldn't be long enough to...

    Gas Milleage

I use to get 12-13 mpg and then I really changed my driving behavior. I started acceleration more smoothly and over longer distances, I also stopped speeding. These two factors jumped me up to 16 mpg. I just switched over to synthetic oil and I think I'm gonna do new plugs and wires soon as...

    Pulling the Locks

Thanks for the advice. You're probably right considering I don't know what I'm doing and they do this kind of thing all the time. I don't mind having them do it.

    Pulling the Locks

At some point the ignition cylinder was swapped out of my explorer. I have a key to the ignition and use keyless entry to work the door locks, but have no physical key to the doors. Obviously this could turn out to be a problem some day so I'm going to pull the door locks and have a locksmith...

    Trans Act-ups

Shouldn't have anything to do with a vehicle speed sensor, because our X's don't have them. The speedometer is mechanical not electrical. I'm assuming there is not an electronic sensor somewhere else in the car, I'd be surprised if they didn't use one for the speedometer but did somewhere else.

    E85 and gas

The most you can probably run in our trucks is a mixture of 5% ethanol 95% regular gas. I wouldn't want to run much more than that.

    Transmission Overdrive

For a long time I did not understand why changing the fluid could be detrimental until recently when I heard what seemed plausible to me. If the transmission has not been well maintained over its life then there could be excessive wear in the transmission and lot of metallic junk in the fluid...

    What To Expect?

my X just hit 183,000 miles and its still going strong. I've been using it for a daily driver for just over two years now. I don't think it was even well taken care of before I had it.

    Power window mystery 2Dr Sport

I believe its called the window control box. Its the thing that gives you the auto roll down window and when it breaks it does exactly what you're describing. Like walter I've had one go out on me too.

    door locks?

Or even better to save the cash. Swap the passenger and driver switch. When was the last time you had the passenger unlock/lock the car for you?

    door locks?

So I think what you're saying is that the switch on the driver's side is broken, but everything else works? If thats the case its really easy to fix just buy a new switch from any auto parts store (they might have to order it). The housing around the switch comes off real easy and the switch...
